Hi,
I have been reading through previous mails and believe that I can remove the _UID from each individual.
1. Am I correct in my assumption?
2. Was the _UID created by FMP?
3. If I then import the GEDCOM file from FH into FMP (or Ancestry) will the lack of _UID be an issue? (I want to be able to upload my tree to Ancestry to share with a cousin who does not have FH . )
Like many powerful products I am only beginning to skim the surface of FH. I love it as it allows me to access the database, but hubby loves it because it is so easy to use.
Many thanks
Liz

Re: _UID when importing from FindMyPast
Liz, although there isn't a specific guide for FMP, see how_to:index#importing_to_family_historian|> Importing to Family Historian.
The tips at the bottom apply to most imports via GEDCOM.
how_to:handling_unrecognised_data_fields|> Handling Uncategorised Data Fields (UDF) is particularly relevant to _UID which is a UDF and can be easily deleted in bulk. Yes, it is derived from FMP and is irrelevant to FH.
You can transfer your data back to FMP via GEDCOM.
The Export Gedcom File Plugin has an export mode (FMP) FindMyPast Family Tree that is designed to preserve as much of your data as possible. See plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:export_gedcom_file|> Export Gedcom File Plugin and especially plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:fmp_findmypast_family_tree|> Export Gedcom File ~ (FMP) FindMyPast Family Tree.
See plugins:about|> About Family Historian Plugins for advice on using Plugins.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your reply.
I'll go and read the links and go from there...
Further question, does Ancestry bring in the equivalent to the _UIDs?
Many thanks

Re: _UID when importing from FindMyPast
Yes, most products include UID because the primary purpose of GEDCOM is for their own backup.
See the Importing to FH link for details of many products.
