Recording father when data are questionable

Post by yogadad »

My great-grandfather's father is identified in genealogies done by people that I know and whose work I respect. But I am unable to verify the information in birth records or other sources. I am able to verify that the individual in question eventually married my great-grandfather's mother but the date is questionable. How do I show the father's name and also flag it as tentative? Or should I make a Note and leave it at that? Thanks.

I'm sure you'll get many options suggested but I tend to use a combination of the graphic image below for 'immediate impact combined with a similar 'flag/icon' and notes describing what is in doubt/needs more evidence. I'm yet to look at the new 'Research Notes' features if FH Version 7.

Thanks, mjashby. So what I've decided to do is flag the birth event for my great-grandfather in the Facts tab to show that these births facts are "tentative" and made a note for each fact that indicates lack of proof of his paternity.
