Lichfield Record Office

Post by gwilym'smum »

Just a note for those who research their families in Staffordshire and actually parts of Shropshire, I have had notification that the record office in Lichfield will close to researchers at the end of the year. Most of the records will be moved to Stafford but some will go into store and need 14 days notice to view. I think it is all part of the reorganization of Staffordshire records and the new building in Stafford.

Note on the Staffordshire Records Office Website

Lichfield Record Office closed at the end if December 2017. Records held there are to be transferred to Stafford, and will be available at Staffordshire Record Office in May 2018.

The correspondence I had with Stafford indicates records won't be available until May 2018, which is disappointing to say the least, hopefully they can put something in place in the interim.

Work on the extension to the building should start in April 2019, subject to successful HLF bids.
