I've recently put all my data onto an external 1Tb hard drive, configured as Raid 1 so if a disk goes down I've still got a backup, and that's connected to my PC on a 100mb network connection.
When I click on Save in Gedcom census, it can take 5 - 8 minutes for Gedcom Census to save my file, it not longer. I do have nearly 8000 indivuidual records, and I've made extensive use of GC to replace Resident records with GC entries, but as I've still a large number to do, it's going to take a long time at this pace.
So, two questions. Can GC be speeded up, and if so, how?
Can GC have a progress bar so that I can at least see how it's doing? At present, the window title just says Not Responding.

How long does it take to open the gedcom file in notepad then save it back? It may be your configuration causing problems. Which RAID configuration did you use?

PS - I just re-read your post, RAID 1 can be slow if it is software (which may mean all data is written twice rather than with a more expensive controller) - what RAID device do you use?
