Custom ID

Post by Little.auk »

Nick,
I have just updated to v 7.3.5 64 bit, and am trying out the custom ID feature for the first time, but I can't get it to work.

The title template is as per attached image. The blank title before I enter data shows as -

Census : : : [No Name] : [[No Name]]

As soon as I select the head of household the first "No Name" is populated with the persons name and the second "No Name disappears and the final generated title I get is -

Census : Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England : 3 Apr 1881 : ROLLIN, Thomas Alexander : []

The Custom ID should appear between the square brackets as -

Census : Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England : 3 Apr 1881 : ROLLIN, Thomas Alexander : [A0008-0000]

Am I doing something wrong?

Have you ticked the Tool > Options > General settings for Use Custom IDs top left?

Sorry Peter, no you're not. Thanks for reporting this issue - it appears that the CUSTOMID tag doesn't work for Census sources. It will in the next version.

Best wishes

Thanks Nick,

I have just added a couple of baptism sources and it worked perfectly for those.

One question on sources - I have an instance where I have two baptisms on the same media source (Parish Record) - One is for Tamar Smith (aged 17), and the other is for her niece Eveline Smith (aged 14), who is the illegitimate daughter of Tamar's sister Rebecca.

I am not sure whether I should treat each entry as a separate source, or whether it is better to treat the media page as the source and create the Source citation for Tamar and then add a citation to it for Eveline.

Hi Nick,

I have just tried to create a source for a death certificate I received today. This also did not insert the custom ID.

I went to Tools and Options to check that I had set the template up correctly (which I had). When I clicked OK to exit the options screen closed and the Custom ID immediately appeared in the title!

Hi Nick,

Custom IDs are working well for me, however, I have a request for an additional option with Custom IDs for Marriages.

Rather than using Individual IDs for Marriage sources, I use the Family ID (%INDI.FAMS>REFN%) or (%FAM.HUSB>FAMS>REFN%.)

Is it possible to add this as an option in the next version of AS?

Where do you put the family id - into the source text? How does that look?

It is in the Source Title as per the template below in place of "KEYPERSON.CUSTOMID", which is OK for Births and Deaths, but for Marriages I use the FAMILY Custom ID, which I add manually.

{SOURCETYPE} : {PLACE} : ({ADDR}) {DATE} : {KEYPERSON.SN.CAPS} {KEYPERSON.GN} & {SPOUSE.SN.CAPS} {SPOUSE.GN} : [{KEYPERSON.CUSTOMID}]
