Ancestral Sources - small change request?
Nick
When you add an image to a Census or Certificate and you Link new Image it checks if it is in the Media Folder or in an external place. If in an external place when you go to Save - it pops up to ask "Do you want to copy the selected image into your project folder etc"
Clicking yes brings up the Media Folder structure, but that seems to be in a random order. Is is possible to make that alphabetical, or is there a reason for the default order?
Thanks
Paul

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
I always save census images. certificates etc in an external folder which I have set up under the flkder Family Historian Project. I use a sub folder called Family information which in turn has sub folders under the various surnames, census, births, baptism etc.
When I use AS I import the images from the sub folder where I have saved it in.

Paul, I have moved this topic to the Ancestral Sources forum. Although AS can be launched from a plugin it is not a plugin itself, so the topic doesn't belong in the plugins forum.
If you click on the column heading to sort the Media folders alphabetically does AS remember that order next time? (I'm not at my main PC at the moment so can't check.)

I've certainly never noticed it not being in order and I'm surprised it hasn't been reported before. I'm not at my PC so can't check, but if I've not specifically told the screen to show them in alphabetical order I expect it is showing in the order they were created or something like that.

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
I'm at my PC now so I have just tested this. In the window where you select the folder, if you click on a column heading to change the order of the display (for example, sorting by Date Modified) AS remembers that order next time. So if you click on the first column heading to sort by Name so that the folders are in alphabetical order it will remember that order.

I think that is a standard Windows filing system feature where each folder remembers its previously sorted order.

Hi
There is no header columns to click on in that view. I have tried sorting alphabetically in File explorer, which works but doesn't bring it into AS.
I have attached a screenshot.
Thanks

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
I find that the list in the window you have shown is sorted alphabetically. In fact it is only the second half of the list in your screenshot which is out of sequence, which is odd. Could these be folders which you created from within AS, using the 'New Folder' option?
However, to get the window with the columns showing in AS, imagine you are adding an image which is already in the Media folder. When you browse for the Media folder within AS you will then get the window with columns which can be sorted. Then click the first column heading to sort the sub folders alphabetically. Then close AS and open it again. Does that fix the problem? If not, this looks like a puzzle for Nick to solve.

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
Thanks for the suggestion Lorna, but unfortunately that didn't fix it either.
I also got a friend to try on their version, and theirs was alphabetical already, but a much smaller folder structure than mine. So perhaps it is just me
Will see what Nick has to say.

If you view the folder in windows file explorer what order does it show in. The folder display looks like a bog standard Windows object so my guess is you have the folder sorted by something in Windows.

Hi Jane
My file explorer works as expected and I can put the folders in any order by clicking the relevant headings, the order they are in does not migrate to that view in my screenshot in AS.

I don't know if it is relevant but you are not using the latest AS version.
Your screenshot shows v7.2.4 whereas the latest is v7.2.7.
I also cannot reproduce your symptoms regardless of how File Explorer arranges the folders.

MIke
When I check AS states I am on the latest version? 7.2.4
Are you a Beta tester?

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
Ignore that, I can see latest version online, the Check for Updates couldn't have been working properly.
I have manually upgraded to latest version with no change.

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request? - SOLVED
Hi
I have been playing with different things, and tried opening an old copy of my Project and then adding an image and it displayed alphabetically, so I made a copy of my main Project within FH and tried again and it is working fine, so must of been a bit of corruption within that project.
Anyway all sorted and thanks to those who offered suggestions.

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
Sorry me again.
Interestingly after it was sorted back as above, I used the add folder function from AS (as per screenshot above) and the new folder went to the bottom and has stayed there. So something a bit wrong somewhere. (for me anyway)

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
So you are using the New Folder... button seen in your screenshot?
I've repeated that and the new folders still automatically sort alphabetically correctly.
So what is different about your PC setup?
I suspect like most of the others in this thread, I'm using the latest Windows 10 version 21H1.

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
My only other thought is if this is a cloud specific issue. I use Google Drive, could it be an issue with that?
I will try a dummy project on Dropbox and see if that works.

Re: Ancestral Sources - small change request?
After some testing it seems that this an issue with using Google Cloud, as it works fine with Dropbox, rather than with AS so apologies and happy for this thread to be deleted.
