Just trying to clean up some of my many old version. and I note I have two old files

Electoral Register UK Templates.xml & Countries.xml

I can see that the entries in the former have been incorporated into the current settings.xml file, but the various entries in Countries.xml seem to have disappeared.

Am I right in assuming this is an old feature no longer needed/supported in current AS (7.2) and can be safely deleted?

Yes that's correct, you no longer need the countries.xml file.
