Populating a Census Entry

Post by patthepiper » 05 Oct 2020 17:29

Is it necessary to have a family member in FH's database, before using AS to add other members of the family appearing in a census?

As a new user of FH and AS, the only way I have found of adding a newly-discovered (census) family is to add a name to FH, then open AS to add the rest of the family.

Is this the correct procedure, or have I missed something in the FAQ's?

No you can do it all in AS.

You can add a new individual and then add their family in the usual way using the spouse father child etc.

Yes, in AS there are several options.

If the new person is a relative of an existing person, then in AS select that existing person in the top-right pane.
You can search by Name or by Rec Id.
Then all the Add Parent/Spouse/Sibling/Child... options down the right will work to add the new person.

If the new person is unrelated to any existing person, use the Edit > New unrelated individual... command.

BTW: Did you discover the tutorials in the Knowledge Base > Ancestral Sources User Guide?
At the end of that guide, it also mentions the Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin that many find useful for invoking the AS program with default values.

Many thanks, Mike and Colin.
My apologies for the simple question, but I'm having a few problems with my imported TMG data.

It is probably unwise to be adding new data via such as AS until you have a 'clean' copy of the imported Project data.
