Adding parent then makes them the focus
I use Ancestral Sources to enter new individuals records for my Surname study.
Find a new record - in this case a new marriage Parish Register.
My workflow:
Open Family Historian.
Check to see if I have the Lefever individual already recorded.
Open Ancestral Sources using Mike's plugin.
(In this case the Lefever individual is a new person) so choose New Unrelated Individual
Enter the name (in this case a female but the same problem is present for a male).
Spouse box correctly populated.
Select Add Parent for this female
Create the parent and it auto populates the father as the daughters spouse.
Create the correct new Groom and select him and he over writes the father as the groom
Create the Grooms father using the Add Parent link and it now puts the Grooms father in as the Groom.
I did a screen recording of this and it is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/UP__Ptv9MRo.
You only need to watch the first 1 min 50 seconds to see this behaviour. I recorded the entire record creation to see if I could reproduce my other auto text problem which I couldn't. I can reproduce this issue at will.

Re: Adding parent then makes them the focus
Yes, that is a very repeatable bug.
It actually does not matter whether you add Parent, Sibling, or Child.
Any Male addition becomes the Individual groom.
Any Female addition becomes the Spouse bride.
And it happens even if both groom and bride have already been entered!

Re: Adding parent then makes them the focus
There is a quite logical reason for this and it isn't a bug, even though I agree the process ought to be changed to avoid confusion.
You have the 'Add to Entry following creation of individual' ticked and that always adds the person you've added to the currently open tab - it is the equivalent of adding the person, highlighting them and clicking the <<Select button all in one go. As the tab you have open is the main tab and as the person you've added is male, they get put into either the individual or spouse box depending on gender.

Nick
I think that it also works this way if you add a male and then add their father too. The father over writes the son as the groom if they have been added in the same way. I will check tomorrow to confirm.

Re: Adding parent then makes them the focus
You are correct Colin, that is effectively what I stated earlier.
Nick, sorry, but where is Add to Entry following creation of individual ticked?
I cannot see that in Tools > Options, or any of the menu commands, nor in any of the Add <relation> dialogues.

I see that tick-box only in the Help for Add New Individual.

Ditto!
It is missing from the actual dialogues. So perhaps that is the real bug!

That option is shown on the window that pops up when you add a parent, spouse, etc.

Re: Adding parent then makes them the focus
For me, that only appears when in Census entry mode, but NOT any of the other modes (Birth/Baptism/Marriage/Death/Burial), and we were discussing Marriage mode.
I am on Windows 10 if that makes any difference.

Mike,
Good point. My mistake. It only appears for censuses for me as well. I remembered seeing this and forgot that I was looking at a census and not a marriage.

Re: Adding parent then makes them the focus
Ah OK this was a bug! It was because of the check box 'Add to Entry' being ticked, but the checkbox isn't meant to apply to anything other than census entry types which is why it isn't visible. But it is invisible and ticked so it always adds a new person. The next version will work as expected. Thanks for reporting the issue and apologies for my confusing answer.

Nick
Thanks I am glad it wasn't me getting it wrong.
Whilst you are making changes could I ask you to consider another? With marriage entries when it comes to entering witnesses the dropdown is in alphabetical order and so Best Man is the default. A best Man is seldom if ever identified when entering a marriage, however, witnesses are very common. Could the dropdown have Witness as the default rather than Best Man?
