Post by GenealogyPrinters »

Is there an easy way to design a diagram and have a different coloured box border lines, coloured by generation.

Thanks.

Ron, I've moved this to the FH 'General Usage' Forum because it is not a 'Maintaining the KnowledgeBase' topic.

Yes, you can use the Diagram > Options > Boxes tab Conditions to govern any Box Features including Box Line colour.

However, there is a special Condition that does just what you asked for.
On the Boxes tab, click the << Add Condition button, choose Generation, select the number of Generations and just the line colour for each generation option, then click OK.

That will produce a tab for each generation that automatically have a different colour each.
But the Edit Features... button lets you adjust each of them independently.
The relationship between tabs and generations is a little unusual.
Gen. 1, Gen. 2, Gen. 3, et seq, are applied down through descendant generations.
Gen. 9, Gen. 8, Gen. 7, et seq, are applied up through ascendant generations.
They will cyclically repeat the features if there are more generations than tabs.

Remember to use the Diagram > Save Diagram As... > Custom Diagram Type... command to preserve those custom settings so they can be easily applied again to other Diagrams in future.

BTW: Do you know you can add descriptive text for each generation on the left &/or right margin.
See Diagram > Options > General tab, Relationship Descriptions.
