Sorting by dates of facts not always working

Post by jsphillips »

Looking at a typical situation I've found is that the Ancestor & Descendant count often are inserted between fact dates. I have tried to use the UP & Down arrows after clicking on a fact but this does not always work.
How can I make the counts always appear at the bottom of the list of facts that appear per Individual please ?
Preferably to apply against all of the individuals in the Project ?

Have you checked the "Normal Time" setting on these facts?. I believe these need to be set to "Post Death" to appear after other facts - this is the setting I have on my "Medal (Posthumous)" fact and it auto appears after the Death fact.

Further to Brents reply, the Up/Down arrows are only active when multiple facts have the same date, otherwise facts are automatically sorted on entry into date order.
i.e. entering the place and occupation for a census, the arrows allow you to order these facts how you want them: Place then Occupation or Occupation then Place.

But the solution here does not involve using up/down arrows in every Individual Property Box.
It needs the Tools > Fact Types entries for the Ancestor/Descendant Count custom attributes to be edited such that their Normal Time Frame is Post-Death. Then it may be necessary to use the Tools > Re-order Out-of-Sequence Data... command.

Sorry to jump on this thread but I'm interested in these two facts. I presume they're ones you created yourself, since I can't find them listed. If so, is there a way to include a function which calculates the number of ancestors or descendants at all or do you add them up & insert the number manually, as one does with the "Child Count" or "Marriage Count" fact? Thanks for any help on this.

A belated thanks to Helen, for answering my query on this, & apologies for the delay in doing so.
