putting suffix in name rather than suffix field

Post by BillH »

This question was prompted by my testing the suggestion in the topic xx Surname Sr.: Want to sort on surname not on 'Sr.' (19682)

I created an individual with a name as follows.

My property box caption is defined as follows.

=CombineText(" ",%INDI.NAME.NPFX%,"")=CombineText(" ",%INDI.NAME:GIVEN%,"")=CombineText(" ",%INDI.NAME:MIDDLE%,"")=CombineText(" ''",%INDI.NAME.NICK%,"''","")=CombineText(" ",%INDI.NAME:SURNAME%,"")=CombineText(" ",%INDI.NAME.NSFX%,"")

The result in the caption is as follows.

I was surprised to see Jr showing between Middle and Nickname. I would have thought it would have come after Last. What variable holds the text "Jr"? Why does it show between Middle and Nickname?

Thanks,
Bill

It is a side-effect of the NAME:MIDDLE qualifier that is defined as:
"All middle names - i.e. everything except the first name and the surname."
So that includes anything after the surname.

Mike,

I figured it had to be something simple like that. I will just continue to use the suffix field as I do now.

Thanks,
Bill
