All Relatives chart has drawn incorrect lines

Post by paultt »

Firstly, I have logged this as an issue with CP #469349, but it has effectively stopped me from responding progress to a client, as I cannot afford to have errors like this! Has anyone else had this kind of issue?
In adding a family tree, and wanting to produce an All Relatives Chart, the chart has drawn incorrect connecting lines! Two brothers married two sisters and the chart has been drawn showing that the brothers and their respective sibling have their correct parents, and also show the sisters parents as theirs as well, ie two sets of parents are shown for both sides of all the children.

Is it a case of overlapping lines/boxes as suggested in the illustration below?
It is still a fault but not as bad as maybe you think.

What happens if you move the Smith and Coote families apart using Box & Bar controls?

Do Harry Smith, Frederick Smith, et al move left and John Coote, Joseph Coote, and the sisters move right.
Then the apparent joint/overlapping family lines become separate.
i.e The red line moves left and the blue line moves right.

Yes, Mike. I can get the lines to show apart by moving the Smith lines to the left, so it is a case of overlapping lines when they should not be. I am now going to add the 3 children of John Coote and his wife Emily, which will probably throw up some more lines.

Update. Closed down the chart without saving, and then reopened the saved chart, so it was back to before moving lines.
I added the three children of John Coote

Then clicked the expansion link to show the children

Still tells me that CP's algorythm for calculating space between boxes and lines needs to be reviewed, and not dependant on a user 'fiddling' to get it to look right!

I predict that a Proxy box will get added for Frederick Smith and maybe Caroline Coote.
That will allow the children of John Coote and Emily to cross the dotted Proxy line.

What version of FH are you using? I reported issues with overlapping lines in All Relatives Diagrams in v.7, and it was fixed in 7.0.1.2.

Oh dear. I had an instance of overlapping lines just like yours, plus a couple of instances of lines crossing through or over boxes. I still had V6 installed in a VM and it displayed the same charts correctly, so it appeared to me that the positioning of lines and boxes had substantially changed in V7. CP found the issue that was affecting me quite quickly. Hopefully it will give them a lead on investigating your report too.

It is known that importing GEDCOM from other products such as RootsMagic and Legacy will now create Media records without unnecessary duplications.
Once users who reported problems that have been fixed are given a chance to check them over, V7.0.4 will be publicly released in https://www.family-historian.co.uk/down ... ee-upgrade with changes listed in https://www.family-historian.co.uk/v7-updates.

Thanks Mike. I've noticed version 7.0.4.0 mentioned a couple of times in the last few days so have been checking the V7 updates page regularly. It's pure curiosity on my part!
