Removing Flags in Bulk

Post by David Potter » 21 Nov 2020 18:58

Evening All.
Is there a quick way to remove in bulk a number of Flags from the database? A plugin maybe or some little known technique?

I have a number of Flags I want to remove, some are actually in use, IE, attached to an Individual. Most are redundant and not used. I want to remove in bulk certain flags whether used or not quickly.

Thanks.

Use Tools> Named Lists and Flags. Select an unwanted flag and click the Flag Status button. Untick Always include this flag in flag lists. (This will ensure that if a flag is unused it won't be listed, but I think you need to close and re-open FH for this to take effect.) Then use option3, Clear the flag on all individual records to remove all uses of it. Next time you open FH it should be gone.

Hi Lorna. Thanks for the reply. I guess this means one flag at a time?
Is there a quick and dirty clear all method?

I have foolishly created quite a list of useless flags that I was intending to use as a surety indicator.

Yes, there is a bulk method for removing Flags.
In the Records Window select all the Individual records you want to clear of Flags.
Use the Edit > Record Flags... command and clear the boxes against the Flags to be deleted.

To stop Flags being listed you have to edit the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Flags\flags.fha file.
If you want to remove all from lists, even the Living and Private flags, just delete the file.
To retain some, edit the file with Windows Notepad, delete the ones you don't need and adjust the Count at the top.
It will look like this:
[.index]
Count=3

[Flag1]
Name=Living
Tag=__LIVING

[Flag2]
Name=Private
Tag=__PRIVATE

[Flag3]
Name=Lost Cousin
Tag=__LOST_COUSIN

Spot on Mike. 133 Flags deleted in 3 minutes.
Only Living and Private remain.

Thank you.
