Source which provides evidence for sibling relationship

Hi All,

I have a source which provides evidence for several sibling relationships. I know who the parents are (from other sources), but this particular source does not prove that relationship. Rather, it says that x is the brother of x and z.

I'm wondering how to document it.

I thought about creating a note record attached to all the siblings and attaching my source to that.

Does anybody have any other ideas?

Shosh

No other ideas myself, that is what I do though.

I guess the assumption is that all the siblings have the same parents, but you need to document that assuption for those siblings where parents are not explicitly determined.
Have you seen how_to:recording_credibility_of_family_relationships|> Recording Credibility of Family Relationships?
That offers some suggestions under the Parents & Children section.

I'm trying to document a family for which there is very little hard evidence (lost in court house fire). For each piece of evidence that I find, I'm trying to document exactly what is proven; I'm not making any assumptions. That will come later when I put together all the little bits and pieces of evidence.

So in this case, although I 'know' who their mother and father are, I want to document precisely what was said in the source -- that they were siblings. And, in fact, no where in this document are their parent's names mentioned.

So I guess I will go the route of a note record, attached to each of the siblings.

So presumably those siblings exist in your Project as completely unrelated Individual records.

You can link them to their siblings using Associated Persons as suggested in how_to:recording_credibility_of_family_relationships|> Recording Credibility of Family Relationships which allows a Source Citation for the association and also allows the association of brother/sister to be specified. The Source record can then hold the original documents you have found. Then both the Association Person links and the Source Citations tie everything together better than a Note record.

I'm getting the impression that you are not linking any of these siblings to the parents at this point. If that is the case then you can link them as siblings via the parents and siblings tab in the focus window. This will produce a family record with (parents not known) but with them as children. The advantage over using associated persons is that FH "understands" that they are related but it is harder, I think, to source the relationship..

Actually, after analyzing lots of little pieces of evidence, I know who the parents are, and the children are linked to the parents. But the source in question does not prove a parent-child link. It proves a sibling-sibling link. That is what I want to document.

I don't like using associates because they are buried in the all tab. I'm afraid they'll get lost. I use shared notes a lot, so I'm always checking the notes tab. I think that's probably what I'll use.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I understand that you will probably prefer to use shared Note records, but...

FYI: Associated Persons can be made much more visible by adding to the Main tab or creating a custom tab.
See fhugdownloads:contents:property_box_tabs_associated_persons|> Property Box Tabs: Associated Persons.

Birth Witnesses Citations as per how_to:recording_credibility_of_family_relationships|> Recording Credibility of Family Relationships could be used.
In the Birth Event for one sibling add a Fact Witness for another sibling with the Role of Brother or Sister and an associated Source Citation for that specific relationship. With appropriate customisation that will appear in the Facts tab of both siblings.
