Adding children below their Mother in a diagram

Post by waltons »

Hello,

Can someone help please. I have produced diagrams in the past with the children from a marriage listed below their mother.
I can't find a file copy of the originals and may have lost them when upgrading to version 6.

I've spent most of this morning trying to recreate this with no success.

Thanks in anticipation....Phil

Hi Phil.
You know what you produced before, but we don't, so could you give a few more clues.
Are you talking about the usual child boxes side by side with each child's details in a separate box?
Or are you talking about a single box below the mother with all her children listed one under the other?
Where does her husband figure in the diagram?

Thanks Mike,

I wasn't clear. It is the later of the two options you mention that I require. That is a single box with the Mother at the top and her children listed below one under the other.

The wife is to the right of the husband. It is a way of listing the next generation in one box.

Thanks..Phil

You use Diagram > Insert into Diagram > Text Box and join that to mother using Diagram > Insert into Diagram > Line.

Select the Text Box and use Diagram > Format or right-click Format.

On the Data tab select the mother as the Base Person.

On the Text tab use <<Insert Data Ref to select Base Person > Child.
Then repeat on each new line but manually edit [1] to [2] then [3], et seq, until enough children.

Cheers Mike,

I'll give it a go - I seem to recall that I was able to do it in a more straightforward way before and include all more that one highlighted box.
I'll keep trying!

Many thanks......Phil

Were the children listed one under the other in the same box as the mother's box?
And did that apply only when a particular Record Flag was set?
That could be achieved with a custom Text Scheme.

I have FHUG Condensed Siblings custom Text Scheme that relies on Record Flags such as Marriage 1 & Marriage 2, et seq.
See fhugdownloads:contents:condensed_siblings|> Diagram Text Scheme ~ Condensed Siblings that looks like the download.
See also threads How to display multiple children neatly (9415) and Diagram - condense list of siblings (6236).

Mike
Thanks for that explanation.
It is a feature that I had not found before. I followed your instructions and all was well so that is something that I have learnt.
