TMG Tasks

I have imported my data from The Master Genealogist v9.05 to Family Historian v6.2. However I cannot find in FH the 'Tasks' which I had entered into TMG. 'Tasks' are reminders of possible future research and, in TMG, can be assigned to a person, event, source or repository.
Any help in locating my 'Tasks' in FH would be much appreciated.
Gordon.

Welcome to the FHUG Gordon.

As a newcomer I advise you study the topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.
That cross-refers to how_to:index#importing_to_family_historian|> Importing to Family Historian that has specific advice for TMG.

However, I don't believe Tasks are included in the migrated data, but TMG migrants will no doubt confirm that.
It may be possible to get TMG to produce a List of Tasks report and write an FH Plugin to import the details.
Otherwise the Task details must be transferred by hand.
See how_to:create_work_in_progress_or_research_to_do_lists|> Create Work In Progress or Research To Do Lists that explains how to construct the equivalent of Tasks in FH, although probably not with all the same features as TMG.

Many thanks Mike. Will follow your advice but it looks like I'm in for a lot of work. I'm surprised.

You could report the problem to Calico Pie as explained in how_to:about#problem_reporting|> Problem Reporting and they may consider improving matters.

If it really is that much work then the List of Tasks and Plugin option may be worthwhile, plus it would benefit other TMG migrants with Tasks. I would be happy to help with the Plugin providing the List of Tasks report structure is rational.

It is a long time since I used TMG, and even then I did not use tasks, but, is there a way to convert a task to a custom fact (tag/event?) within TMG or with TMGutility or similar?

It's quite a while since I came to FH from TMG and at that time there was no way of bringing Tasks across. At the time I decided to print them out with a view to reviewing them and then use the To Do List as suggested by Mike. It was a good intention but somehow I never got round to it and it is still in the heap of things to do!

However, I wouldn't be surprised if 50% of those things to do haven't already been achieved as new documents come online and the versatility of FH has helped me to find them. Since I moved over, the software now has Hints and if you use some of the Plugins, particularly Mike's Lookup Missing BMD Records and Lookup Missing Census Facts, you may well find that far more productive than trying to look for that obscure bit of information by more traditional means.

My suggestion would be to print out the Tasks List from TMG then try to differentiate between the essential items and those that would be nice follow up. Just do or record the essential and put the rest to one side and enjoy what FH has to offer.

While Calico Pie make no attempt to transfer TMG tasks, I'm not surprised as I have found few TMG users to make use of it. It was (I think) included in TMG to enable professional researchers to track effort and expenses of their investigations on behalf of clients. It was later extended to provide an interface to GenSmarts.
The Task data is stored in the TMG Research Log File (database table L) and would be easily handled by a plugin, but it's a matter of how much interest there might be in it.
