transfer of family historian 6

Post by maggieb » 04 Feb 2017 15:47

I have family historian 6 on my computer and have now bought a laptop without disc drive and want to transfer over. I have googled question and the method seems to be save contents of disc onto data stick and transfer over but this is not working.
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks
Helen

Hi Maggie, yes the data stick approach should work. What exactly is not working?
See Knowledge Base .> Family Historian Installation Details where it says: "If you only have an Installation CD, but your new PC is a Netbook/Laptop with no CD drive, ..." and goes to say you must run the Setup file.

You could also try networking the two PC, or buying a cheap USB CD drive.

BTW: One of the benefits of buying a download from Calico Pie is it makes this installation task so much simpler. You just copy the downloaded file across.

After solving the installation challenge, see the Knowledge Base > Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide for full details of what to transfer, plus the Knowledge Base > Ancestral Sources Migration Guide.

Have you actually installed FH on the laptop yet?

Hi, I have not installed FH on new laptop because of no CD drive. When I copy and paste FH disc onto stick it just gives pathway error when I try and open from data stick.
I am not sure what it means by set up file. Sorry am not too good on the technical aspects of computer!

OK, don't forget to update to latest free download FH v6.2.2.

Now see the Knowledge Base > Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide for full details of what to transfer, plus the Knowledge Base > Ancestral Sources Migration Guide.
