OK, we can live with that, although it is not just Win 7 but also Win 8 and Vista bottles.
I wonder how long they will continue with that backward thinking :D

Please try the attached Plugin that tries three increasing levels of complexity of REG QUERY batch jobs.

It would be particularly interesting if you could run it in the Win XP FH V5 bottle and the Win 7 FH V6 bottle.

Interesting on FH v6 the plugin showed 3 dialog boxes on v5 only 1.

Thanks Colin, most of those messages are errors due to my mistakes in the Plugin script.

Please try the attached dated 03 Jan 2015 on both bottles.

Thank you Colin, but not very promising.

Can you clarify what AS version/variant is installed in the two bottles.
Which AS version number and which bit variant (32 or 64).
Are they 32-bit or 64-bit bottles?

Here is another version of the Plugin exploring some more Registry access methods, etc.
Please run on both bottles and report as before.

v4.01 32bit in the FH5 bottle and nothing in the V6 I haven't resolved those problems yet as I have been doing this instead. FH5 bottle is 32bit. and I will check the Win7 one.

I will try the new plugin in the morning.

Those tests tried using the RegRead method and the Reg Query batch command.
RegRead only works on Win XP and everything else fails.

Try the attached Plugin date 04 Jan 2015 that also tries the RegEdit export batch command.
[EDIT: ATTACHMENT now deleted.]

If that also fails in Win 7, we need to discover from Code Weavers what Windows Registry access tools are supported.

No joy still the same see the attached only run in the new v6 bottle with AS4.5. Your data entry plugin still doesn't pick up that AS is installed.

Regedit was supported under XP I need to find out if it is under Win7 as it isn't installed by default and I can't find it in the list of supported apps. If it is supported I presume we can make a manual Regedit and the Backup & Restore plugin may then run?

UPDATE: I have found how to run RegEdit under the new version of Crossover so this is a possibility.

I am not surprised there is no output from FH V6 & AS V4.5 Win 7 bottle as no Registry commands seem to work.
However, I saw an Internet entry that said wine regedit was supported.
Does the AS Data Entry Plugin run OK?

Please try TEST REG ACCESS Plugin on the FH V5 AS V4.0 Win XP bottle.

Then we'll have some questions for Code Weavers about why Registry command are available in Win XP but not Win 7.

No AS data entry does not run it says that AS is not installed.

Run on v5 & XP attached.

Also see this thread, it appears that the bottle is not a genuine Win7 environment but just an XP one spoofing the programme into thinking it is running on Win7. https://www.codeweavers.com/support/for ... msg=167000

OK, that begs the question why RegRead works in Win XP but not Win 7.

Have you included the Windows Script 5.7 Crosstie in the Win 7 bottle?

That should at least get the AS Data Entry Plugin going, and offer a possibility of getting some Backup & Restore functionality, albeit without full Registry backup.

Mike

I didn't include the Windows Script 5.7 in the Win7 bottle as I expected it to have been included in the Win7 bottle. Now understanding that it isn't a real Win7 environment I have added it and the AS Data Entry plugin now works.

That is good news.
Does the TEST REG ACCESS Plugin now run better in Win 7 bottle?

That confirms Win XP and Win 7 are consistently the same.

Also confirms that only the RegRead method works, and batch commands for Reg Query and RegEdit do not work.
Now we have achieved stability, there is the possibility of getting at least a partial Backup & Restore Plugin working.
Before that though, I want to check a couple of other options with batch commands.

Could you also ask Code Weavers if there is any way of exporting/importing Windows Registry keys via say program batch commands or similar, but not manually.

Mike

I have raised a ticket but my reading of the documentation is no so it will have to be a manual import into Regedit but I will confirm when I have heard back from Codeweavers.

Mike

As I expected there is no way to do this according to Codeweavers support other than to do a manual import in RegEdit.

I'm struggling to run FH on iMac el Capitan. I use FH V6 and have installed it into a recent Crossover. The bottle appears to hold FH6 - but I have not discovered how to make FH open. It there a command required? Until Crossover went awry and I had to reinstall, FH6 would open by clicking the FH prompt logo on the task bar. Since the reinstall, there is no logo.
How do I create a prompt? Or get FH to run from the Crossover panel?

@Harry

What version of Crossover are you running?

You should have a Family Historian bottle with a blue triangle next to it. Click on the triangle and it should go from horizontal to vertical and a Family Historian icon should now be displayed on the right. Just click that.

If you don't have that post a screenshot of what you do have here.

Thank you for the prompt response, Colin. This Crossover is 16.2.5. I find no blue triangle. Here is the screen:

That looks nothing like mine, but I am running on Sierra. However it looks as though you have lost the Family Historian executable from the bottle. The best bet is to try to create a new bottle and install Family Historian into that and see how that goes.
