Hmmmm! But I don't have a website of my own to archive and no time or inclination to make one. Too busy doing research! I have chosen a couple of solutions which will, I hope, keep my tree available after my demise. Still interested in what others have done about it. Or are you all immortal? LOL

Where to host tree for posterity
So, to extend the discussion in 13929|Where to host tree online so I can share it , what about somewhere to leave your tree when you are dead and gone? A personal website is no good because the fee would cease to be paid. Ideally it needs to be public because any interested researchers could not con...

Just to be a pedant .... there's no reason Bertha could not be the mother just because her husband had died several years before!! Bertha's apparent age is another matter of course.

I know this does not constitute a proper legal answer but ...... Speaking as someone who has spent many happy hours taking photos of churches and gravestones and then uploaded them like this, intending that everyone who wants to use them can do so. I am horrified that it might cause such angst!! I u...

I also use an invented person for the purpose of skipping a generation like this. It saves any misunderstanding about it definitely being any particular daughter.

Well I hope so too. Its a great time saver when entering whole families to just be able to type the first letter of a Place when using it in consecutive entries.

How interesting! Just shows that while many of us sceptical of multiple births they obviously did and still do occur occasionally. Shows you should always try to find the original records.

Re: Tech Mistakes to Avoid
I do a lot of lookups for people at my local archives. I create extra projects for them because they are nothing whatever to do with my family. I have two One Name studies in separate projects. I also find it better for me to have my and my OH in separate projects, the only common place is me, OH an...

Re: Multiple trees
I used the Search for Orphans query very successfully for just this purpose. It can get difficult to keep track of individuals who may well appear on several different trees. In my case the details had been entered by three different researchers over a 15 year period. The pool numbers were very usef...
Re: Marriages
Ah, sorry, I thought you said the death was at the time of the birth, ie it was possible the mother had dues in childbirth. Still, it looks a promosing one to follow up with all the other details.

If the death of a Jane Saw occurred in the same town at a similar time to the birth I think I would risk my money on that death cert to see what it contains. Hopefully a useful informant and an address. Was there any useful info like that on the birth cert?

Made the change to V6 at last!
Have finally made the upgrade from V5 to V6 .... OK, I like to take my time over things! I'm a very basic user of FH; I don't use the Focus window, Internet matching, Mapping, Web searching from within FH. What I do suits me! The new features which I already like are the better display on my big scr...

Re: Exporting a list of individuals?
I ran exactly such a tree for a One Name Society for 8 years. All the names were in the one project and (from memory) there must have been 30 different trees in it. On the (quite rare) occasions when the trees were found to link together it was a simple job. Also it was eay to compare two or three t...

Not sure if this is what you want but sometimes I produce a chart for a particular purpose and needing some additions and explanations. I do this mainly by adding text boxes and arrows and such like. All these can be freely added without affecting the data of each individual.

Re: Researching recent ancestors. Advice needed please.
Have you thought about probate records? Those on Ancestry go up to the 1960s and the beta FindaWill government website, while cumbersome to use, comes much more recent and is free to search. You can buy a will on line and have it delivered by email. Its not quick and it costs £10 but it could potent...

Personally I would use Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England. Have just gone through all my places and 'forced' them into three columns. Right or wrong, it suits me and seems to have satisfied Ancestry, which is why I needed to tidy them up.

Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past
Whilst I appreciate that there will be many people (probably younger than me!) who will find valuable information on the 1939 register, I personally have no intention of spending any money at all. At the prices quoted I would only be able to afford to open pages for immediate family, all of whom I k...

Have you tried newspapers? A wide selection is available on FMP and the British Library newspaer site.
Otherwise you may be out of luck because official records may have 100 year closure.

I am a FMP subscriber and didn't get a discount email either! Will await the answer to your query with interest. However I don't have anything in my research pressing enough to spend money on. I prefer to spend it on more certificates and wills. Hoping that some day the 1939 will be available under ...

As part of two One Name Studies I have downloaded well over 1000 marriage 'certificates' from London and West Yorkshire. Certainly makes the subs to Ancestry and Find My Past worth while!

I use the registration district as the place the event took place if I have no other information. So that I know it is only a registration dustrict I call it eg. Patrington (RD), YKS. This distinguishes it from Patrington, YKS, where
I know the event did actually take place in the village.
