Family Historian

Thank you for that. I'll give it some thought. I've done so much configuring of FH to suit me personally that I'm a bit nervous about uninstalling it. I wasn't aware there was a plug in for backing up and restorining the settings. I'd like to use the plugin in any case as I've had several computer b...

Thank you. I had a look at Cameyo, but I already have FH installed on my computer and I don't want to uninstall it as it took me ages to configure it exactly as I wanted it.

Can FH be run as a portable application from a Flash Drive? I want to be able to take it with me to show other people how it works. Using Portableapps.com I'm able to run such programs as GIMP and Audacity from my Flash Drive. I'm hoping there's some way I can do the same with Family Historian. Woul...

BACK-UP

The same thing happened to me today when I tried to do a full project backup. 'A problem occurred. Task may not have completed correctly.' I tried 3 different drives and all failed to backup correctly. Then I discovered the reason. I had created a report and saved it as a Word document. That documen...

Narrative Report Descendants by Generation

Sorry, I did actually publish a reply to my own message, but it seems to have disappeared. I discovered I had asked the same question two years ago and received the answer. The fault was created by me as I had altered the sentence construction in Work with Fact sets. I've now fixed this and the prob...

Narrative Report Descendants by Generation

When I generate the above report, the children of a person are numbered and listed below by name, but when I go to their number to access further details, their number and details are there, but their name is not listed. Where there is a large gap between the original listing and the main informatio...

Searching for duplicates.

Thank you Tatewise. The answers don't fit the bill in my case, but appreciate your input. I'll just have to do it the hard way by checking out each individual. Despite the fact it doesn't do everything I want it to do FH is still the best genealogy database I've used thus far and I've used a few.

Searching for duplicates.

Is there a way of searching for possible duplicates in FH? I've been doing a tree where there are many names the same with many first names only. As some persons married several times, I've found several duplicates already. I'd like to have FH search for me to save me a lot of time.

Grouping Diagram items

Thank you Tatewise for your response to my problem. I've read the other material and placed my vote for some sort of permanent grouping.

Grouping Diagram items

I have a reason to group a text box and line with a diagram box, so  the text box and line won't be separated from the diagram box when the diagaram is rearranged. Is there any way to do this in FH vs 4 please?

Relationship Chart

The only thing I miss about Legacy (and it is the only thing) is the brilliant relationship chart it could produce in an instant. You just keyed in the two individuals and the chart was produced showing the direct line of descent from the first common ancestor. Now I know I can do this in FH and oft...

Scrolling with Mouse Wheel

i would dearly love to be able to scroll the Records window using the mouse wheel. It's the method I use all the time and has become such a habit that I'm constantly frustrated at having to use the scroll bar. Only a minor quibble but one that would make life easier for me.

Merging two people from different files

Thank you for your help. I will follow the instructions given. The reason I have the same person on both files is because, although I had a name, spouse and marriage date on my main file for Ann ----, there were two persons with the same name born in the same village only 7 months apart and I had no...

Merging two people from different files

I want to merge two people but they're in different files. I don't want to merge the whole file just these two. The reason is I've typed a lot of data and source information into the person's record in one file and I don't want to have to repeat it all in the other file. Is there a way of merging ju...

I'm using XP, but I've solved the problem by reinstalling FH. I don't know how it became corrupted, but the Family Historian PDF Printer wasn't available either. It is now. Thanks for trying to help.

Order of events

Thank you, Yes, I meant on the Events tab. Sorting alphabetically helps on a temporary basis, but I really don't want an alphabetical sort. I want to use the up/down arrows to order my events freely and have them stay ordered my way.

I would like to be able to order my events freely instead of being restricted to categories.  For example where a person has several occupations, I like to have them grouped together. Same with residences. I prefer it this way rather than in date order.

Jane, I think you're right, that's exactly what it's done. And, yes, I can access the images - just no Multimedia records for them. It was a very kind thought to consider writing a program to fix it, but please, I don't expect you do do that. I'll just put up with the way things are for now and when...
