Re: EMF icons - specifically sub-UN State flags (Munster, Scotland, Flanders etc.)
I'd like to see if there is an actual need for these icons before investing any time, i.e., whether anyone is actually going to use them or whether it's an exercise for the sake of completeness. Perhaps anyone interested in using them can add to this topic. Well the original need arose from someone...

In doing so how would you navigate an "all relatives" family tree to ensure you covered everyone?

EMF icons - specifically sub-UN State flags (Munster, Scotland, Flanders etc.)
Subject arising from: 21259|Diagram/Chart Performance 19216|2021 Converted Icons Hi all, I recently found my diagrams and charts were taking much longer to load than previously. A little investigation showed the issue was with a couple of Country Flags I had created. I found that their size was over...

Re: Diagram/Chart Performance
Perhaps we need a new icon group of "Irish/British sub 'UN-State' flags" - presumably added via the "Contribute > Add/Update a Download" Menu on the KB? Ditto for US State flags etc.? That would save others from downloading excessively sized "icons" from other sources?...

Re: Adoption problem
Mike: Did you consider using "biological" rather than "natural"? That may avoid the confusion in use of the term natural that you describe in the Knowledge Base article, and is the way I have always heard the relationship described: biological or adoptive/foster. Does the Nomenc...

Re: Diagram/Chart Performance
Perhaps they should be downloadable from the Knowledge Base Diagram icons possibly together with other reasonably sized flags for Ulster (6 & 9 county), Other Irish Provinces and British & Irish Counties? Perhaps we need a new icon group of "Irish/British sub 'UN-State' flags" - pr...

Re: Project opening warning/notice
Let's hope CP think it worthwhile as well ! Well CP are under no obligation to read the Wish List Requests although they do undertake to study the Wish List - which is a separate matter. See: 6175|Calico Pie - Wish List Policy My understanding is that promoting a "Request" onto the Wish ...

Further to discussions elsewhere on this forum Martin has responded with: "Thank you for raising this issue. We agree that there is scope for greater clarity and consistency in this area. We have logged the issue and it will be passed to the developers for evaluation." This would seem to b...

Re: Family historian and OneDrive, advice required.
Two thoughts: 1. Drive susbtitution It has been a while since I worked on Windows but in my Wine on Linux setup (which mimics a Windows environment), I can use substitute drives to shorten path/filenames. I imagine that this facility uses an equivalent to the MSDOS command subst . A quick internet s...

Re: narrative reports use italics for children's data
First line support is about helping people use the product and learning about bugs and difficulties users have had. It isn't about keeping users apprised of development intentions (including progress on bug fixes). One a user knows that something has been passed to development, first line support h...

Re: Seeing '=LinksTo()' items
Helen: Is 2) a bug that should be reported to CP? 2) Any linked Sources revert to Generic Sources. If you undo the deletion, the template data associated with the linked sources doesn't appear to be restored. I think it partly depends on whether you expect a "template" to be a "plan&...

Re: Saving Diagram Options
It would help if the language was clearer. I always find diagrams help, but and not sure that my understanding would necessarily support the creation of one. "Templates" seem to be a new word in the FH lexicon (at least for V7) and I am assuming that they are much like Word Templates (and ...

Re: Accuracy of Scottish Census transcriptions
For the Scottish census years where FMP has transcriptions (i.e. only up to 1901) I use FMP for the initial search because I have a subscription, and so I can view their transcriptions at no extra cost. When I am satisfied that I have found the right household then if there are no obvious discrepan...

Re: narrative reports use italics for children's data
Looking at the support ticket input screen, we are not asked to describe what we are looking for so it is possible that a "support request" will be interpreted as an "enhancement request" - which "developers will consider" - presumably when thinking about a "new fu...

Accuracy of Scottish Census transcriptions
In relation to the 1921 Census. I would never trust the transcription unless I have no other choice. In my experience, I haven't had too much trouble with the details you are talking about, but the transcription of names, places and occupations (even where the handwriting is quite clear) is appallin...

Re: All relatives charts
It is also worth realising that within the Diagram Properties box you can adjust those "duplicate curves". I do not have FH to hand at the moment, but I think it is under an Advanced button on the lines tab. You will need to use help to understand how to adjust things like how deeply those...

Re: Customise main application toolbar
You and me both  personally I find diagrams give me such a very small view of my tree that is readable, that I don’t bother with it. This is one of the reasons that I have been pondering whether we can have switchable/configurable diagram settings (mainly text schemes). You could have a minima...

Re: Understanding source templates
My description still did not fully answer my own question about what a citation is. If not a “record” or “collection of subfields,” then what IS it as opposed to what it DOES? The best I could come up with is that it’s an “entity” of Family Historian: “A Citation is an entity composed of (1) a link...

Re: Sort order for Place Records
This works for me because the data is mainly for my eyes within FH or summary/outline reports. In narrative reports it might not flow very well, but it would mean you don't have to worry whether or not to include 'the'. I'm in the same camp; I don't let FH "write my family history". Part ...

Allow use of 'File Description' when creating and opening projects

Is there possibly a need for holding some narrative about a project in the Head of the GEDCOM or possibly in the .proj file, which can show in the "Project Window" - possibly as you mouse over the various projects?

The rest can be a problem when there is no specific name apparently associated with the chapel, only a description, e.g. the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Tunstall, Staffs. If I enter the Place Name as "Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Tunstall, Staffordshire, England", then my narrative sentenc...
