Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc
DONE IT!! :D In fact the colours of the Focus window didn't change to those I had set up but everything else has, as far as I can tell. When I ran the restore, having unticked the box as you said, there were 2 or 3 commands come up in bright pink, which I guessed at the right response (can't r...

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc
Hi Mike Thanks for that, no I wasn’t looking at the green file path in the plug in. I went back to the old pc and created a folder called Backups and selected it so the green file path was: C:\Users\Chris\Documents\FH Projects\Backups – then I ran the backup. I have copied it into the same position ...

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc
Hi Mike The backup data path for the old pc is: FH Projects / 1 other stuff / Family Historian / Program Data I first copied it along with all the other contents of by back up hard drive into a file called Retrieved contents on my new pc, obviously the file layout was as above. At first I copied and...

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10
I had an HP scanner which I used in Windows 7 via Irfanview and it worked a treat. I have now got a new pc with Windows 10 and I can't seem to get the scanner in Irfanview, so I am going to use the scanning facility on our printer, hadn't really bothered before.

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc
Hi Mike Have only just got back onto my new pc, all the icons and the start button on the task bar stopped working/disappeared, which taxed my husband's brain mightily. By a miracle he got it back (I think by pressing the windows key and the L key in case anyone has the same problem and has tried th...

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc
Hi Mike Thanks for your advice, I think I was going wrong because I had not set the default back-up folder so it saved them where it wanted. I have tidied up the file structure and set the default backup folder but it still didn't work, kept telling me there was no data, whether I was using the subf...

Moving FH settings to a new pc
I have been following the Migration Guide to move my FH program and data to my new PC - very many thanks to Tatewise for the guide, otherwise I would have been totally stumped. The only problem is that I cannot restore the settings, as per item 7. I ran the plug in as per item 3, and it seemed to wo...

Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past
Thanks Adrian for the info re persons who were to be included. I haven't yet found my grandfather in the newspapers on FMP for the week in question, so I might "take a punt" and see if it is him if I need one set to make up my 5 family offer, but probably won't bother otherwise at the mome...

Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past
Were people registered at their home (electoral roll) address, or at the address they were at on 29th September? I am trying to find my grandfather, there seems to be only one candidate, assuming the birth year is reasonably correct, but he is not where I think he would have been living. However he ...

Re: GRO Registration Data & Place Data
I tend to leave the place and address fields blank, unless I am pretty sure that they coincide with the registration area. The quarter date is a clue and then I put the details of place, volume and page in the note. The people in my current project are born married and died in my village, but the re...

Sorry not to have got back to you earlier, I have been very busy the last week.
Thank you very much for spelling out exactly what I had to do, I followed your instructions to the letter and it all works exactly as I wanted.

Re: Witnesses in Diagrams
Did you mean like this? =ExistsText(%INDI.BIRT[1+]%,"Born:") %INDI.BIRT[1+].DATE:COMPACT% in %INDI.BIRT[1+].PLAC:TIDY% (%INDI.BIRT[1+].ADDR%). It seems to have done away with the extra address items as desired, but also the 2 other witnesses. I have checked that I haven't inadvertantly als...

Ian Munro birth witnesses sentences 11 02 15.jpg Ian Munro birth all witnesses 11 02 15.jpg Hello, I first added your sentence to the end of the 'birth' but the result was rather messy, so I then added a second 'birth' event and entered your sentence there instead of the original one, see screen sh...

Yes please, I tried to work it out for myself, but couldn't.
I saw your other post about witnesses in diagrams, thank you for taking this further for me.
I await a possible solution.

Witnesses in Diagrams
Up until V6 I recorded witnesses in Notes in marriages, and created Events - witness, best man, etc -for those individuals carrying out these roles. These were then visible in the Diagram I usually use - 'All Events and Attributes, and Notes' (or my customised version). I have been going through the...

Re: Diagram question
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I called them by different titles to indicate there were 2 types of residence fact, both of which needed to be read for a complete picture. I tried removing the -Cens from the title but it didn't make any difference. The Census reference sentence for residen...

Re: Speculative Link
Many thanks Bill, I have now bitten the bullet and created a birth fact; I look forward to using it with some of the less definite records I have found. :) I think I will revert to my previous practice of leaving out employment details from census data entered via AS - though I will make sure it is ...

Re: Speculative Link

Thank you, I hadn't noticed the conditional formatting for diagrams before. I might tackle the Birthnote function coding described by you and Tatewise l...

Re: Save 50% on a Find My Past Subscription
Not quite sure what it is that doesn't work. If you mean the AS donate screen, I found it eventually. You have to open AS and look on the Help menu, rather than finding it on FHUG website. At least, Paypal tells me I have made a donation to AS, so I hope it has gone to the right place. The email fro...

Re: Save 50% on a Find My Past Subscription
Thanks Jane, I have been thinking of subscribing to Find My Past for some time and have now been inspired to get out my credit card. Already found some information that is not on Ancestry and am impressed by how easy the searching seems to be - though I haven't done anything obscure yet. As my credi...

Re: Diagram question
Is there any possibility that the facility to list all items in a diagram in chronological order will be included in the next version of FH? Last December Tatewise explained to me how to move the 'address' line up the diagram to appear below the 'place'. I have just started a new project and have cr...

Re: Publish - Create a CD DVD

I tried transferring the documents on my Android tablet - too much like hard work, and also asked my s...

Many thanks again. As you suspected, I was talking about Diagrams with Boxes that have Hyperlinks ...
