Re: Plain Text Only setting

That's because you are pasting formatted text if you are pasting from a website so it is working as expected. If you right click and choose 'paste unformatted text' then it will be plain text. I think the OP is suggesting this happens unexpectedly for them. Yes, that was my quick "accidental&q...

Re: Plain Text Only setting

For me it is easy to replicate, I have just done it. Copy from say a website (their text is usually formatted) and paste into say a note or Source text. If one then does the usual Ctrl+Alt + double click it then shows rich text ticked.

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.

So to summarise, the 'merge' is not a strict merge but more of an amalgamation. i.e. Multiple Residence facts that have the same Place/Address but various Dates, Ages, Notes and Source Citations need to be reduced to one Residence fact with a FROM first Date TO last Date, discard Ages, merge the No...

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.

Jim, I'm not entirely sure what facts you need to merge. I thought you were just extending the Date Period (not the Date Range) of one Residence fact and copying the Source Citation from the Census Event. I have existing multiple Residence Facts for the same place, this could be from various Source...

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.

This then begs the question: Is there a quick way to merge Facts? At present I have to manually copy dates and sources and any notes.

Looks like editing the Gedcom file might be quickest and even easiest, but of course more dodgy!

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.

Many thanks for all those observations. I am fully aware of the issues of a date range for a place (or other facts) which might not be continuous and in reality one can only say they were there on certain dates. But practicalities and "seeing the wood from the trees" is also important to g...

How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.

I have been combining Residence facts and their sources for the same Place/Address to a "date range" as a "seeing the wood from the trees" exercise. The logical next step would be to use a Residence Fact instead of Census , the source would still be a Census. I know there are the...

Re: find Fact Notes, Text from Source and Source note with a last blank/empty line

Thanks, a few more hints and wrinkles: I like the [ ] which I have used in MSWord and other regex

·» ]+$

it also found many "trailing" tabs.
So it does it all in 1 command.

Re: find Fact Notes, Text from Source and Source note with a last blank/empty line

I did note this from my notes: ^ – When at the beginning of a pattern, it forces the pattern to match the beginning of a string $ – When at the end of a pattern, it forces the pattern to match the end of a string I should have "twigged" as I have often used ^ for beginning of a "line&...

find Fact Notes, Text from Source and Source note with a last blank/empty line

I am trying to find Fact Notes and Text from Source and Source Note that have a last blank/empty line. Easy enough to find any blank line with 2 enters (paragraph marks). I can do this directly by editing the Gedcom file in notepad++ (find replace) as the CHAN record seems to come directly after the...

Re: AS - Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else?

Thanks again, I will experiment on a copied project. At present I am inclined to use the "wrong" parent in AS and then copy/delete any facts to the "documented" parent. I suspect in most cases it will just be the occupation.

Re: AS - Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else?

Thanks for the info, so that suggests I create/add a 2nd parent, presumably I can "detach" again later or just leave or use the "wrong marriage parent" and swap any facts afterwards to the documented father.

AS - Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else?

This seems a simple question and I'm surprised I have not come across it before, so I suspect I am having a senior moment! Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else? Re: Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned

I reported this to Family Historian support "rtf report monospaced fonts in tables not aligned #908527" who took more of an interest in it than I thought they would. After some tos and fros they "consider" it is a problem with MSWord or Libre Office. Despite that a RAW newly crea...

Re: Allow reports to split very wide tables dynamically

It would be a reasonably straightforward enhancement to AS to have it invert the grid so the column headings were displayed downwards... This is a way to keep all the info for one person together, it would probably need a lot more space, and using Landscape mode would probably limit to around 5 peo...

Re: Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned

What would you expect Word to do with a long line like that? My point is that it is only the rtf output from FH that creates the problem, if it is copy/pasted into a new document, it does the alternative as you suggest, continues on the next line. and correctly aligned. I do not understand why FH o...

Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned

This is an observation/fix on Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned. I still use a monospaced font for Report tabulated output, e.g. Census. However, I noticed that when a *.rtf Report file is viewed/edited in various editors (e.g. MS Word 365 and LibreOffi...

Re: link to KB Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources

Maybe just add a bit to Helen's suggestion: Customising V7 display for Generic Sources to resemble V6 display. This makes it clear that it's just the display that is being customised and shows that it might be of interest to users who were familiar with V6, without suggesting that the customisation...

But I think that still makes it sound as if the customisation is necessary in order to use Generic sources. It's not. Mmm I see what you are saying, I suppose even the original Simple implies that. I am trying to remove the confusion (previously in my mind) that Generic may be different to V6 (Simp...
