Re: Private Messages
Helen’s point about unknown e-mail addresses may be a red herring, as messages are clearly shown as sent from FHUG in my experience. Perhaps it should also be made clear that if you send a PM, it exposes your actual registered e-mail address as the reply address. As you pointed out, any private mes...

Re: For citation nerds
Curious to see if any bookseller in the UK other than Amazon (which I boycott) will have the book for sale. EE's publisher has already told me if I want it in Canada I'll have to buy it from Jeff Bezos's monolith. I'm still not sure this new edition will convince me to return to ESM's citation styl...

Re: Private Messages
Common courtesy, Mark? Plus common sense.
If I receive an unsolicited email from an address that I'm not familiar with, it's deleted unread.
Other people might report it as spam -- and the last thing Jane needs is for FHUG to be reported as a source of spam.

Re: Private Messages
Mark, People may not have realised that receiving private messages is enabled by default; it's not uncommon for the admins to receive reports of private messages as unwanted, hence this post. Ideally, all contact would be via the forums, where it's available for other to learn from. If you're happy ...

Re: Overriding ":REVERSE" in a bibliography
IMO Names should always be entered in Name fields using the FH/GEDCOM convention Given /Surname/ AFAIK, it's also factually incorrect. All I could find in GEDCOM 5.5.1 is The name value is formed in the manner the name is normally spoken, with the given name and family name (surname) separated by s...

Re: Overriding ":REVERSE" in a bibliography
I can't see any way other of handling this at present other than entering the Author as it should be displayed, not as it is... So Fred Bloggs would be entered as Bloggs, Fred. I can't remember (Gary_G will know) if there's a requirement for the names to be handled in different ways in e.g. a footn...

Re: Overriding ":REVERSE" in a bibliography
You're missing the point, Mike. Given that certain citation styles require the author field to be displayed as 'Surname, Forename.' if it's a personal author and 'Organisation.' if it's an Organisational Author, your opinion about how personal names should be entered isn't a lot of help. Example Aut...

Evidence Explained: Third Edition vs. Fourth Edition . I don't have a copy of the fourth edition yet -- waiting for an ebook to be available in the UK -- but will be interested to see how much it actually simplifies things. And whether the templates bear any resemblance to the ones I created for my...

Re: Overriding ":REVERSE" in a bibliography
Mike, I suspect we're talking about authors here, not Principals. In which case. Gary is right. Strathclyde says Where the author is a person then the name is given as surname followed by given name. Macdonald, Ian G.; Macdonald, Ian G.. Referencing for Genealogists (p. 31). The History Press. Kindl...

Re: Address: Where are you?
As a final thought, the Property Box could have great added value by incorporating "hot" (active) icons against Place (and Address, of course) to indicate the existence of Notes and Media. Hard to see where they'd fit alongside this lot 21446|Property box icons ! And as I said there, I'd ...

Using Mark and Hide in Diagrams illustrates the technique. It;s for an older version of FH, but still relevant.

Re: England & Wales Probate Calendar images
I used to be a diehard Evidence Explained afficionado. And now I'm wondering if (for my redo sometime anytime soon perhaps) I should adopt Strathclyde. Or maybe not -- there's another version available of Evidence Explained -- just waiting for a Kindle edition real soon now. Whatever I do, however, ...

Re: Handling identical source names
I don't have duplicate titles. I view images from different collection-repository combinations as different sources (since they are, technically; for example, different online providers have done their own imaging for e.g. censuses, with differing qualities).

Re: Ability to change user interface language
Being realistic, this isn't going to get done any way except community sourcing. Are you talking about the Help text in the programme or the html conversion? If the HTML conversion, it looks as if it's done with https://www.helpwaregroup.com/products/far which hasn't been updated for 4 years, so it ...
