Re: Census Events imported from TMG
Thank you Mike, That is all I needed to know. I was totally confused by the software requesting a past tense when the sentence below was already in the past tense. I cant really refer to other witness roles and copy them as I dont use them. I dont know if there is an example in the sample file. Yes ...

Re: Census Events imported from TMG
The problem is Mike that the import from TMG, which I had believed to be complete, has lost all the witness roles. (Roots magic import from TMG does the same but does report a list of people who shared the same census entry) But in fh, using your plug in on this imported data, the text reads Witness...

Re: Census Events imported from TMG
I can now feed back why I am so lost. Yes, I go to the fact definition and click on roles and add a name son or daughter. But there is a field for a past tense used in Fact Tab of the property box. I am told , Please supply missing value. But the sentence is already in the past tense and I dont unde...

Re: Census Events imported from TMG
After backing up entirely, I ran the new plug in on one project. Thank you Mike.
But I have lost the TMG roles - I think this suggests that it would be better to edit all the censuses in TMG to before importing. I have another project which I may try handling differently.

Re: Census Events imported from TMG
Thank you Mike. I will work through all this as I need to learn fh.
But the important thing is that I could run the updated plug in and remove all the witnesses?
What would be the benefit of removing the family aspect of a census? I am not used to family events - but they are part of fh.

Re: Duplicate Record Numbers corruption?
Mike - You are absolutely right. I made another attempt this afternoon and eventually successful moved the two groups into a new database. I was overjoyed till I found that lots of my sources were duplicated - sometimes three times. I have tidied the sources but the the place list remains to be done...

Census Events imported from TMG
I have a considerable problem with some (but not all) census import and would appreciate some help sorting it out. A previous thread discussed Census events and how they are best handled for fh and Gedsite etc. 14579|TMG UK Census Fact Definition I do not want to repeat that debate here. My census e...

Re: Duplicate Record Numbers corruption?
In view of the trouble you took Mike, I just pulled the Project out of the Recycle Bin and reopening it. As well as the dire warning, it generated an error report. No individual's numbers were duplicated. The problem list was of Sources, Repositories and Places. These indeed are very untidy - I have...

Re: Duplicate Record Numbers corruption?
Mike, Thank you for your reply, and confirming that I took the right steps. I was a bit doubtful about moving families about in case something got lost in transit, so have decided not to try again. And there were so many unlikely elements in the situation, that I dont think it is worth your botherin...

Duplicate Record Numbers corruption?
I have run into trouble twice this week. A crisis arose after I decided to use a new Project to list records for a particular town. I created the new project by copying an existing Project (with its sources) and then deleting all the people in it. I have done this before with no problem. However on ...

Re: Viewer for fh Projects?
I was picturing something similar to what one sees on a computer screen - and private not a published website uploaded. The grandchildren have access to i-pads but do most school work with Windows. My first purchase of of an early version of fh was a gift to one grand daughter - it no longer exists!...

Viewer for fh Projects?
Just wondering what fh 6 users do to allow family members to browse their project complete with media? I notice that Calico Pie sell discounted multiple copies of fh for using in families, but only if one starts from scratch with a family pack. Whereas I have gone from upgrade to upgrade. Or do peop...

Re: Multiple instances in fh
There is no need to apologise Mike. I am fumbling about with guidance from John Cardinal as well as yourself, trying to work out how to reproduce with Gedsite and fh, the same websites I used to generate from TMG. This outcome is good news for myself and anyone wanting a simple short occupation fact...

Re: Multiple instances in fh
How fh GEDCOM handles undated Facts? This is governed by the Normal Time Frame setting in Tools > Fact Types > Edit . Unfortunately, an undated Occupation Attribute will sort just after any dated Occupation Attributes . I may not have understood Mike but that is not what I am seeing on the Facts li...

Re: Multiple instances in fh
Ordering instances of a Fact or Event. The moment has come to take this one step further in the context of a GEDCOM and multiple instances of the Occupation fact. The fh Help to which you kindly directed me seems plain: provided one has sorted one's data in date order, multiple instances of Events w...

Look Up Missing Census Facts - Existing entries?
Mike, I now for the first time have a UK tree in fh. So have run your plug in and am finding that it leads to entries which I already have. How does the plug in recognise existing entries? Is it done by an exact date? Most of my early research was done pre internet and then transferred to TMG UK ver...

Re: Repeating the last source
Thanks Mike. I have used ancestral sources for censuses. But I thought that Ancestral sources should be opened up only for entering a sequence of records of the same type. And that the data had to be new. Whereas I was adding sources to and editing data which came to me sourceless from a reliable fa...

Thank you both - Jane - I need to look at this as I thought I had been doing that -i.e. as far as fh goes I use the icon buttons. Repeating the last source
I should be grateful if an fh user could explain to me the easiest way or ways to repeat the source and citation just used. In fh the Automatic Source citation works wonderfully for entering a lot of data from the same records, e.g. in Place studies. But it isnt appropriate to set it up if one is en...

Re: Best way to record possible related information?
The adding of possible relatives has been a problem in all Genealogy software. I met it myself last November in my own very early days of using fh. In family historian one can create lists - It is called a Named List. And one can use this Named List to hold the names of possible people to group them...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Since I was happy with a very early version of this plug in and used it, I clearly didnt grasp every stage of its later development. Thus until today, recommending it to someone (ex TMG) in an email, I didnt realise that one could click on the names to move to a new root person. I am posting this si...
