Thank you Mike, those sites are very interesting and useful to pass on to others who are perhaps just starting out as well as those of us who have been researching for longer than we care to remember!

Re: Birth and death registrations.
Adrian, Don't follow what you say about the informant not being able to be a neighbour. I have a certificate where the informant is a neighbour, as her address is given. Presumably they had to be present at the death. I also have an inmate in the asylum as the informant and also a workhouse master. ...

Re: Census entry if away from home
Wilfreda Hi it can depend if the householder was literate. If not, the enumerator would be asking the question and it all depended on how how he asked. He might not have asked if the servant was a relative or phrased it in that way. Even if the householder filled in the form it would be a matter of ...

Re: Census entry if away from home
Hi As Mike said it is interesting to think why someone is living in an unexpected place. I had recorded a long time ago one of my husband's family in 1911 and not given a thought to why the wife's sister was living with them, until last week I was preparing a talk and was going to use this entry jus...

Hi
I think "nick name" is rather disrespectful but there is the option to enter "Also known as" by the name. She needs to keep the name she was born with as that is who she was. Then she was "known as" in her later life.

Re: Online course just started
Hi I take Pharos courses, I know you have to pay but they are very helpful and can be assessed or can be taken unassessed. I have just started their DNA course. I did the Future Learn basic course. It was helpful but the student contact was too much like Facebook comments as the student discussion w...

Hi Not exactly the same topic but I think related. My cousin's natural paternal grandmother, Christina, was the daughter of a German immigrant and an English lady. It is not known if his first wife had died or returned to Germany. On all the records I have found they are referred to as married. On C...

Naturalization records
Hi Does anyone know if there are any on line records for immigrants who have become British Subjects please. I am looking at a German citizen who came to Britain in the 1850s and on consequent censuses he is recorded as naturalized British Subject. Presumably his British wife would not then become G...

Hi
Under the spouse you will find a section labelled "status" this gives you the option to record the relationship.

Father on birth certificate
Hi,
For some reason I have mislaid my list of dates for rules governing birth certificates. Does anyone know the date on which a father had to be present when registering an illegitimate birth please? Just can't find it on the web. Thank you.

The beauty of FH is that you can use it at whatever level you choose. I have had the program since it first came out and still only use it on a very basic level. This forum is a fount of knowledge and will help you get to grips with any query however basic and they do not sneer if you don't understa...

Re: FHUG on the move
I do not see it on any other web page.
I had not noticed before but have been away for a couple of days and not been really paying a lot of attention just having a quite read of all the posts. It was this morning when I looked and noticed the Not secure part.
Sorry to be a menace.

Helen Thank you for getting back. I think I might have solved the having to log in problem as I have re saved the new forum to my favorite's bar and having tried it a couple of times it appears to be ok but the "Not secure" has not gone away. I will contact Jane when she gets back. Thank y...

Re: FHUG on the move
I was recently persuaded to swap to Chrome as DNA Painter and FMP Living DNA required Chrome and a couple of other reasons. This happened just before the recent changes to FHUG. However over the last few days every time I try to access the site I have to log in despite ticking remember me. Also just...

That was a good spot.
Like you say it is all about a good story but it then makes it a story and reality becomes hidden. I have started to like A House Through Time much better.

Re: Who Do You Think You Are - Whitehalls
That is really interesting, not being from "down south" I hadn't thought of that.
What I did notice was that when a relative supposedly presents a certificate, which was presumably in their possession, it had been purchased around the time the programme was made.

Re: Unlink from one parent
Hi Mike Thank you for the reply. Now you put it like that it is logical to make the extra steps. (Just me being in a rush!) At the time I just thought that why didn't I have the option just to unlink from father but of course the child needs to be linked to another family even if there isn't a fathe...

Unlink from one parent
Hi Probably a very basic question but could not see an easier method. I have just found out that 2 of the children of my great aunt were born several years after her husband died. I therefore needed to unlink them from her husband. I clicked "unlink from" but it only gave me the option to ...
