Override Text
In V2 we had a very easy way to override text in a diagram whereby you could overtype most, if not all, text with some temporary alternative, (re page 70 of the old manual). With V3, the manual (still page 70) talks about using a Record Flag and setting a condition in the text scheme. Could this be ...

Google Earth placemarks.
Hi, This might help, but I'm afraid it's not quite Google Earth. If you can extract your birth places with a query, then you should be able to populate a map (uk and most of Europe) with your birth places if you have Autoroute. Have a look at my article in: Articles>Editorials>Populate a map with al...

Update on Version 3
I'm hoping Calico Pie will be updating their website soon with some screen shots to show off their new unique features and whet everyone's appetite.
Hopefully that would then herald the availability of V3!

Possible Trojan horse re
I also had my McAfee virus programme report a trojan, and it deleted Gedcomcensus.exe yesterday, quite out of the blue. It must be the first time I have had McAfee report a virus. (I'm not in the habit of acquiring viruses!) So, like Autobyke, I was somewhat surprised by this. I thought it was unlik...

Unable to load object.
I have just had some large (A0) charts scanned as tiff files by a bureau. On inserting one of the files, I get the message Unable to load object in the windows pane where the picture should show. The other files were fine, but this one wont load the picture, although it does create a multimedia r...

Source/citations and additional data.
Suppose you come across the year of birth of an ancestor, old Joe Bloggs, from say, a family chart or a gravestone. You add the year to your F.H. data, create a source for where the year came from and cite it in the birth event. Some time later you find Joe Bloggss birth date and place, from a birt...

Records with no sources
If the differences between birth source and record source are a little confusing, I find the individuals record source vs. name source very confusing.
Neither of them seems to be life events, so when/how and for what are they usually used for (or can be used for)?

Where do I go to find these?
Many thanks for your help guys. The London Gazzette supplements proved very useful, they have given me virtually the whole army career of at least one relation. However, I had hoped that the question might have been answered with the identity of the record repository for OBEs, DSOs, Knighthoods, etc...

Where do I go to find these?
Can anybody help in pointing me in the right direction to find out more about the following? - 1. A distant ancestor who was reputedly knighted by Queen Elizabeth I. 2. A relation who was awarded an O.B.E. in about 1918-1920. 3. A relation who died in Burma in 1921, we think he might have been a mis...

Extract residence at a given time
Is it possible to create a query that will extract the residence of all those alive at a given time? Bearing in mind that there may be more than one residence listed for each person and the dates will probably be in the form of a period. This could be quite useful if plotting the locations of where ...

Populate a map with all your ';places';.
Ive just made a dramatic discovery!!!! If you have Microsoft AutoRoute (mine is 2002), then you can import all or some of your places and addresses, and provided you have used suitable place descriptions, AutoRoute will add a push pin in the appropriate place on the map. Heres the procedure for ma...

Relating items to residence
I was adding a note to my Gt Grandfathers residence attribute to say that we have photos of the place when I realized that this note probably applies to the place rather than the person, particularly as it would also relate to other family members living there. I have paintings and photos of places...

Adding marriage citations manually.
Im a little confused about adding marriage citations manually. From a chart Ive been given of my family tree, Ive added all the data into Family Historian. Now I would like to record which data came from this (and other) charts by adding source citations as appropriate. Ive noticed that a source...

Auto-citation creates 2 citations.
Ive noticed that when you have Auto-citation enabled and you create a new record as a child or parent, at least two citations are created.
One is linked to: Individual/Name/Source,
The other is linke to: Individual/Source.
Why two?

Issues with Narrative reports of Custom Events
I have a number of custom events, one of which is called Events which I use to record things like: someone changed their name; someone got knighted; someone became mayor, etc. This wasnt a problem until Narrative reports came along. The problem is the grammar you get in the sentence. Custom Attri...

Query to find custom attribute usage
Hi, I've got a number of custom attributes and events and want to find where they are being used. I've set up columns in the query window to get the attributes and the associated notes I want. I then tried to set up filters to pick out those fields with text using the operator 'contains text', which...

FH2.3 - editing narrative sentences
Hi, There's been talk of being able to edit the text used in the new narrative sentences. I would like to change the wording for specific Events/Attributes. Hi, I was studying one of my diagrams and wanted to make a note of a number of people on it for future reference. If you right click on a name in the records window (or in the 'All' tab of the Property Dialog), you get a menu:- if the option Add Miscellaneous is then selected, a further sub-menu is presented which starts with Add Submitter and finishes with LDS. There doesnt seem to be anything telling y...

Where to deposit all our family research?
It goes through my mind occasionally, what to do with all this hard won family data I, and everyone else here has accumulated? What does one do to ensure that future generations, setting out on the quest for family history, wont have to start all over again, but will be able to locate the work alre...

When defining text schemes for diagrams, or fields for queries, would like to be able to specify the listing of all instances of an attribute/event without the necessity of specific instance identifiers. Curently we have to be specific, ie. [1], [2], [3],
.. [n].

Diagram box size
There always seems a lot of empty and wasted space in diagram boxes, particularly when more fields are added to the text scheme.
I would like the height of boxes in each generation row to adjust to no more than the height of the box which displays the most lines.
