Re: Browsing All Persons in Project by Focus Window
I suddenly realised in the middle of the night that to open a second Word document etc I would click on the right mouse button - once I did that the second copy of FH opened from the icon - talk about a dimbo! Found it very useful yesterday when I was comparing the formats for two types of re...

Re: Publish - Create a CD DVD
Many thanks for your very helpful advice. :) 1) I have now successfully substituted one pdf for another improved version 2) You were right, for some reason I had change the diagrom options to black and white - I must have done it in the last few weeks and have absolutely no recollection, which is ra...

Re: Browsing All Persons in Project by Focus Window
Thanks very much both of you.
I cannot open more than one instance using the icon, but I've found that I can open the second copy from the program on the start menu, and I can open more than one copy by going to the start menu rather than using the icon.

Publish - Create a CD DVD
I am working through the Knowledge Base and Forum articles about creating CD/DVD /website and have a couple of queries: 1) Having reached the end of the wizard and closed it, is it possible to carry out further editing/improving at a later date, perhaps by re-opening the wizard? I cannot find a way ...

Tip of the Day
 Is it possible to produce a list, and content, of all the 'Tips of the Day' that show on start up? I have been using FH for several years and have always had them switched on. I quite often see one that might be useful to me,though not on that occasion. By the time I need it I have probably f...

Re: Recording Sources - Best Practice?
Have just downloaded this plug in - excellent, didn't realise I had so much media attached. Will help me with my current task to compare my Explorer source files with the media in FH, and with my printed off records (why have 1 record when you can have 3) as I know they have got a bit out of kilter....

Customing appearance of source pane
OK, thanks.
Positioning it on the right does not leave enough space on the screen for the diagram, which is the view I usually use.

Customing appearance of source pane
Is it possible to customise the appearance of the source pane below the individual record pane? I would like to hide the fields 'entry date', 'where within source' and 'text from source' - or have the option to hide them. I generally write any such details in the notes field. The aim is for the scro...

Charts vs Reports
Many thanks Tatewise. The file was 166kb so that explains my uploading problem. It looks similar to your sample so I probably don't need to bother. Your example re reports seems to do exactly what I wanted so I will have another look at my data and get back if there are still any problems. Thanks al...

Charts vs Reports
I usuallly work with charts, set at 'all events and attributes and rec notes, see uploaded image. I like the way I have arranged it and would like the same layout in printed reports. Is it possible to use the same layout in a template? I seem to remember seeing that it is not good practise to just...

Merging PDF's into one document
Thanks, Tatewise. I use 'FreeOCR' which works very well I find. I don't generally want to paste it into FH, my purpose being to create an electronic version of the memoirs, all 12 A4 lever arch files of it - more akin to the message posted today re (auto)biographies. However joining several images...

Merging PDF's into one document
tatewise said: JPEGS, and the PDF derived from them, are just like photographic images, so the PC sees them just like any other images, and cannot extract any text, perform text searches, or the like. The only solution, as you have discovered, is Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, which ...

Merging PDF's into one document
Thanks for the information re Irfanview, I have now successfully joined together jpegs of my fathers typewritten (not word processed) memoirs. The search facility does not work so is it possible to create some sort of index, book-marks, keyword list, to enable readers to find a reference to a parti...

selecting records for diagram
I did the same sort of thing by creating a new project. It meant I could give assign names in a way that was meaningful to my grandson, and attach a recent photo so the person is recognisable to him, which is not necesssarily one that I would want in there for posterity. eg 'Bryan Langley' in name ...

I have a series of corrrespondence between my father and various researchers dating from 1950's and 1990's, which I have started to examine. I've scanned in pages that have new information for me to add to FH but I cannot decide whether to scan in the whole series of letters, even those that are mer...

I have the Ancestry app on my Galaxy 10.1 tablet and am similarly impressed with its ablilities, it will enable me to add details to my tree when I am out and about, which I can then cross reference to FH at home (or upload I guess). Or create new ones. The Galaxy tablet I bought comes complete with...

Lovely lights. I have been meaning to buy some archival storage so looked on the link to My History. If I sca...

I wish someone had told me . . . When I started
I wish someone had told me when I started family history research - by entering verious family names into search engines, usually during a wet lunchtime at work, that websites disappear, or information on them changes. Fortunately I printed the only photos I have of my grandfather but this was main...

1) Is it possible to display thumbnail views of each report so that I can tell which report I need/wish to use?
