Re: Hello Everyone

Hi Jane, Not being technical I can only speculate on the time and effort involved in the new format - I'm sure it's more than substantial. My age will likely be showing if I say I find the new format a bit overwhelming and a bit too bright. I'm sure with some use it will become easier to navigate. B...

Duplicate Names

Yes, Tatewise's suggestion that a 'find duplicates button' that would cover all record types would be a big help. Always appreciate his input as it is on the mark.

Hope Simon is paying SOME attention to the wish list and the conversations here.

Duplicate Names

Explaining 'verify before entry'.  Actually what Family Tree Maker USED to do was: I enter John Smith I enter b. 1838 - FTM sees I have a John Smith b. 1838 and asks 'is the John Smith b. 1838 in New York State'.  So now I realize that this COULD be a duplicate and go to my index and realize that it...

Duplicate Names

Sort of - but not really.  My wish is to verify before entry.  Yes, one can have many John Smiths to pick from - or not - but just asking 'is this the John Smith b. 1838' should be easy to put in the program.  I don't use diagrams to connect people - not with almost 40,000 in the database.  As the d...

Duplicate Names

Yes, I know - we've been through this before - several times. And I know there is a plug in to find duplicate names. HOWEVER - WHY do we have to get the duplicate names in the first place?  I just went through another one of those - same two people - names and dates close enough that it could have b...

Breadth of research

Since my early known ancestor was b. in 1586 d. 1655 and had 14 children between two wives, I now have almost 40,000 in my database. They mostly tended to have VERY large families for several generations. Early on they also frequently married into the same families so that did some expansion also. W...

High Usage with FH 5

Have been getting messages from Norton re high usage with FH running.

Any idea why this would be? I have a large database - would that be the reason?

FH 5.0.7 crashes when working with the the Sample

Where is FH 5.09?

I have FH 5.07 - checked for updates and get the message that I have the latest version.

Work with External File Links Error

I am soon to get a new computer that will have Windows 8 which already will be quite a change from my current operating system.  Now I'm concerned that I may have problems with FH 5 and Windows 8. Hopefully there will be solutions to any that come up????[confused] Is there another update from FH 5.0...

Pool Numbers

Confused again re pool numbers. I have just added a number of individuals, mainly Dawsons, who are NOT related to my file root, Elijah Washington Sherwood, directly. 'No direct relationship found between Mary Harriet DAWSON and Elijah Washington SHERWOOD. Mary Harriet DAWSON is cousin of Adelbert Wi...

Pool Numbers

Thanks Bill.

I ran the 'Search for Orphans' Query and was then able to go to Configure Columns which gave me the option of 'Load From Query'.

Have a large database and ended up with 108 pools; only 213 not in Pool 1!

Appreciate the input!

Have just read these notes on pool numbers.  Have looked in the help section and did not find a way to activate this.  What am I missing here?

There always seems to be another item that has escaped me!

Ancestor Report/Outline?

Thanks Jane for the suggestions.  Don't think either would work very easily as I have some 35,000 folks in the database.  Used the line of ascent query and filled in the rest of what I needed on a spread sheet.

Would be SO much easier to have a FH report with the format as mentioned.

Ancestor Report/Outline?

I'm trying to prepare a simple ancestor listing for a number of individual relatives who have the same end ancestor but different parents. What I want to have included would look something like the following - only with ancestors not descendants: Descendants of John Drew       John DREW (1724-1819) ...

Downloading usable gedcoms?

Jane mentioned V5.0.1 upgrade - I've just did the 'check for updates' and got the message 5.0 is the latest.

Am I missing something here as I don't see anything on this website re any current upgrades other than Jane's remark.

Letter Spacing on Reports in FH 5

Have just gone through all the report types again, chose - format - installation settings and, as Tatewise indicated, all turned up as mostly Times New Roman????? So, no longer see weird spacing as before - good deal. Can only chalk this up to early dementia on my part - or, perhaps, gremlins in the...

Letter Spacing on Reports in FH 5

I rarely have reason to put my data into any report format.  Occasionally I send a descendant outline or similar report to a relative or someone doing research in my line . So it is that I have just experimented with the various report formats to 'give them a look'. I have also compared what I see w...

Same person in file 3 times

Not sure how your situation occurred but it sort of says AGAIN, that it would be nice, REALLY NICE, if FH 5 had the capability of asking 'is this the same John Jones that you already have in the file'.  It could save SO much unnessary duplication. I've heard the reasons why some folks don't think th...

I have yet to receive my V5 - hoping TWR will be sending it ASAP. Previously didn't think to ask if my full V5 will install separately or will it overwrite my 4.1.3?  Seems all previous updated versions were overwrites?? And why is that? Should be able to use two fully paid for versions if that suit...

PULEEZE Simon, Those of us stateside are already in suspense waiting the release of the 1940 U.S. Census - UNINDEXED!!!
