Re: Question about user-template configurations
This used to be the case but later versions of AS allow you to select the Key Person in the census using the key button on the toolbar.

Re: Question about user-template configurations
You are correct. There are no functions to do that. Are you not able to use KEYPERSON for your 'person of interest'?

Re: Question about user-template configurations
Here's a screen shot to illustrate. Birth and Death use the same source template, but I've changed the 'Region field' on each to show that they use different settings:

Re: Question about user-template configurations
Mike; It's very simple. I don't want to rewrite my template logic just to use A.S. It isn't designed to switch the way fields are mapped based upon the A.S. {EVENTTYPE} value. For Births I have to map certain A.S. fields to those in my template. For Deaths, I need to map other fields. It sounds lik...

Re: New PC
I would seriously review whether Laplink can automatically migrate installed programs such FH and AS, etc, from PC to PC bearing in mind FH also installs C++ and Printer applications. The general advice is to reinstall applications such as that from scratch using installation media. Yes I wouldn't ...

Re: New PC
Trying to stick 'on topic' by mentioning FH a lot... I use OneDrive synced across several computers and this holds my FH projects and all other data. So purchasing a new computer or installing onto a new computer is no longer a daunting thing because when I add my Microsoft account to the new comput...

Re: Question about user-template configurations
Sorry, Mike. Thought it was clear from the context in my post. I have an FH-7 user-defined template that could work for one or more of the events for which A.S. is designed to handle. However; some of the fields in my user-template need to be mapped to different A.S. variables in order to be used f...

Re: Adding Media files.
Thank you all who replied to my query about Media files. At the moment as I have already added an enormous amount of data to my projects I think that I will try to add the media files to the Sources and when, and if, I have to enter completely new data I will try with Ancestral Sources. (Does that ...

Re: Adding Media files.
The problem with adding them to the Facts is remembering all the Facts that were derived from the media. The worst-case scenario is Census records which usually yield a Census event for each member of the household, plus an Occupation fact for most of them, and possibly a Birth event for some of th...

Re: Adding Media files.
How are you adding the media files? You should be attaching them as media to the various facts and not to the individual. See this article in the knowledgebase Getting Started You may be better off using Ancestral Sources to enter these type of facts. Yes, I have been adding them to the individual....

Re: Question about scope of records handled by A.S.
My, but this thread has wandered... :D I'm still developing a modified Strathclyde template set to meet my needs and had just intended to check with Nick about whether I'd likely addressed all those that really needed to interface with A.S. I hadn't expected my example citation to generate such a d...

Re: Question about scope of records handled by A.S.
From what I've observed; it appears that A.S. was designed primarily to handle census returns and the info derived from civil/church registers, but not really intended for use with other typically consulted BMD sources like the GRO & FreeBMD Indices. Am I correct? If so; I "think" I'v...

Re: Questions about AS Keywords and User Templates
I discovered that the Keyword button on the source template editor does not appear to inject the keyword name into the currently highlighted field. Unfortunately; when I then typed it in manually, I didn't capitalized the keyword. When I discovered that the keywords are case-sensitive and fixed the...

Re: Questions about AS Keywords and User Templates
Hi Gary KEYPERSON has a lot of functionality for non-census types but for the census source type it was really just designed to have a few sub-tags that people might want to include in a source title. So it just supports various name formats, ID, CustomID and Gender. I could potentially add support ...

Re: 1939 Register labelled as Census - why?
The 1939 register is really a census in all but name but for a different purpose. A census is an official survey of the population of a country. In AS by default the 1939 register template uses the census fact but you can change this in the template (Tools->Census Templates): you could have it creat...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used
Yes I agree with this. I added my comment because I wanted to clarify how context menus are used, but really it is up to Calico Pie to decide how to implement this. Although I can also see it would sometimes be helpful for them to understand the wish more clearly. So perhaps the wish-list item could...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used
Right-click context menus are generally associated with an item being selected - a text box being edited, an image being selected, a file, etc. It makes sense for the records window to have this option in the right-click context menu for that reason. But I really can't see how right-clicking on an e...

Re: Diagram - Census data
If you just want to record a single person in a household and don't want to use John's method to record everyone else in the household, there is nothing to stop you just adding the one individual to the census entry in AS. AS will still help you to transcribe the entry, will still help you to link a...

Hi Wanda My guess is that security software on your computer is stopping AS from accessing your documents. Take a look at this Knowledge Base page . The 3rd expandable section of the page describes how to resolve the issue if Windows security is blocking you. The 4th if you use Norton security. Rega...

Re: 1939 Register
I would suggest it is a safety feature - as far as I recall, it has been there since I first started using AS some years ago!. Before AS updates the FH Gedcom, it takes a copy so that if there are any problems with the update there is a fallback solution. Personally, I have it set to only generate ...

Re: AS death and burial input screens.. edit?
The main screen in AS has a number of input boxes to enter data into and the majority of these will fill in fields within facts (for example occupation facts, residence facts, etc.) but there are inevitably items of data on a source that won't get stored in facts and so these are just recorded in th...
