Re: Change map locator symbol
With the cursor outside the map pane, the mouse scroll wheel should not zoom the map at all. When you do that does the slider move up & down in sync with the mouse scroll wheel? Mike, when I have the mouse cursor outside the map pane, and use the scroll wheel to zoom the map, the slider does mo...

Re: Change map locator symbol
Bob, after using the slider, where is your mouse cursor? Is it centred on the cross-hair? If so, then yes the mouse wheel will zoom and maintain the original location, but move the mouse cursor and the mouse wheel zoom will reposition the map. Mike, After I make the initial zoom adjustment with the...

Re: Map Window Location search field question
Yes, I get the same thing Bill. I was also puzzled as to what is going on with that when we were trading replies on the other map thread. I was about to submit a new post as well, but you beat me to it. I don't have an answer.

Re: Change map locator symbol
That is strange Bill. Yes, my cross-hair always stays in the center of the Map display window, regardless of whether I use the slider bar or mouse wheel to do the initial zoom. However, in the case where I use the mouse wheel for the initial zoom, the cross-hair remains in the middle of the display ...

Re: Change map locator symbol
Doesn't seem to be a coincidence. I just opened FH again, opened the Map window and typed a location in the Search box. The Map window went right to the correct location and centered the cross-hair right on the spot. I then moved the slider bar up & down and the cross hair stayed in the correct ...

Re: Change map locator symbol
I was using the mouse scroll wheel. Your are right, when using the slider bar, the cross-hair stays fixed to the correct map position. However, I also noticed that if I use the slider bar as the initial zoom activator, then subsequent zooming with the mouse scroll wheel works the same as the slider ...

Re: Change map locator symbol
I haven't used the Map Search feature before. But I just tried it to see what you were talking about and I also noticed that as you zoom in & out on the map that the cross-hair does not stay fixed on the search location, i.e., it just stays in the center of the map screen. I would have expected ...

Re: Newbie to FH6, Improper location on map question
I'm sure that I am in the minority here, but my approach for avoiding mis-plotted PLACE locations is to manually geo-code all PLACEs in my database. I research each Place using sources such as WikiPedia or Google Earth to get accurate coordinates. I enter those coordinates into my PLACE database and...

Re: New User Questions
Regarding the various report formats that are offered in FH. As others have said, it would be a good idea to experiment with the different FH report formats until you find something that appeals to you. However,as you do this experimenting, be aware that most of the FH report formats use computer ge...

Text Search Within A Specific Individual Record
Does anyone know if it is possible to do a text search within a specific Individual record, as opposed to the entire FH database?
I have not found any Menu options that will allow me to isolate an Individual record and confine the text search to just that record.

Re: Show Relationship to 2 People in ISR Output
Thanks for the suggestion Mike. However, that complex of an expression is going to be beyond my capabilities to deal with. With over 2,000 relatives in the database, I will undoubtedly run into issues. I think my safest bet will be to just print out 2 separate ISRs, one for my side of the family and...

Re: Show Relationship to 2 People in ISR Output
Mike, Using your suggestion, I inserted =Relationship( %CUR_FILE_ROOT.~SPOU[1]>% ) for the 1st Spouse of the File Root. And, put my wife's maiden name in the Label box. The resulting ISR produced the following output (see attachment) for one of our shared relatives, Charlemagne. As you can see it is...

Show Relationship to 2 People in ISR Output
I am generating an Individual Summary Report (ISR) for a combined family tree, which will include both my and my wife's sides of the family. Currently, I am the Root person in the tree and I use the expression " =Relationship(FileRoot(),%INDI% )" in the Report Options>Contents>Main Section...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
Yes Mike, using a setting of 0.6 pretty much did the trick. 1728 Individuals 799 Families Both George V & Mary of Teck are included in the All Relatives diagram, with George's relationship to me listed as half 25th cousin 3 times removed and Mary predictably being listed as half 25th cousin 3 ti...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
Mike, I downloaded Ver 0.9 of the Plug-In and ran some more tests. Here are some simple comparison stats on the results when removing my wife's side of the tree. As a baseline, my combined tree for my wife and I lists: 2170 Individuals 1002 Families With your previous Ver 0.8, I got the following re...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
Yes, Mike, I think the option to choose the percentage of generations to retain would be very useful. Regarding the removal of Mary of Teck . In our combined tree, with me as the Root , FH reports that Mary's husband, George V is wife's 20th cousin 4 times removed . As I stated in the previous post,...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
Mike, I downloaded your Plug-In revision and ran it on my combined tree (wife & I) with me as the Root person. It did indeed remove all traces of my wife's lineage. And, Elizabeth of York is correctly retained as my 13th cousin 17 times removed , i.e., there is no mention of Elizabeth being rela...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
Lorna, just to follow up with your suggestion about un-linking my wife from our combined tree. I did create a copy of our combined FH project. I then disconnected my wife from both her parents. I then created an All Relatives diagram, with me as the Root, and it does retain the correct path from me ...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
I don't know if this has any relevance or not, but I will throw it out here anyway. Could the term " direct ancestor " be a key phrase in this mystery. The Google definitions that I am getting for " direct ancestor " means: A direct-line ancestor is someone from whom you descend ...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
Mike,
Given what you state above about the Plug-In algorithms, are the assumed answers to Lorna's 2 above questions accurate?
If they are, that would seem to explain why Elizabeth of York got disconnected from me when I ran the Plug-In for just my side of the family.

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
Well, perhaps this FH omission of an All Pool diagram is what needs to be added to correctly display Elizabeth of York as a blood relative to me in the new project for just my side of the family. Just to be clear, my relationship to Elizabeth in our combined tree (for my wife & I) does show Eliz...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
I think this because Bob says Elizabeth is in the new project created by the plugin, but he doesn't say she appears in an All Relatives diagram in the new project. You are correct in this statement, Lorna. Elizabeth of York does not appear in the All Relatives diagram for the new tree for just my s...

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives
In an effort to isolate what is going on, I first created a Relationship Diagram between me and Elizabeth of York. This diagram is generated from the combined family tree for both my wife and I. I selected the 13th cousin 17 times removed from me relationship to generate the diagram. I have attached...
