Re: Source Record ID Numbers missing or wrongly assigned after import from TMG

I am sorry if you feel offended by my posting. I have also been researching my family history for over 20 years and I am always willing to listen to the advice of others. Of course, you are quite at liberty to carry on in whatever way you wish, and it was only in a spirit of helpfulness that I made ...

Re: Source Record ID Numbers missing or wrongly assigned after import from TMG

I am with Mike Loney on this as, in FH, I never need to refer back to the original image as it can be called up from within the program. Yes, I do keep the original images but in a named file system and not a reference or ID form but that is only there if the unthinkable happens and I lose everythin...

Has anyone re-done their tree and can they please offer any advice which would be most gratefully received Returning to the original question my response would be "not exactly"! Your file is slightly larger than mine when I started with FH and maybe yours is a bit more overloaded with wha...

Re: What occupation?

I think that the last word is acres - here is an extract of the previous page on the census

Compare 'acres' in that extract with the one in your image and I think they are very similar, so my conclusion is that it is 'Farmer of eight acres'

Re: Query to Identify Totally Unlinked Individuals

Mike (Tatewise) Thought I would try this query and was surprised to find that I had over 500 orphans in my project of just over 5000 individuals. Having wondered how I had accumulated so many I then realised that if I then filtered out those that were entered as part of a census the numbers dropped ...

Re: Witnesses

Thanks Mike - I did search the forum for "witness name only" but drew a blank. I thought that there must be a query or plugin somewhere but didn't fancy trawling through all the results for "witness".

Mike - this presumes that you know the name. Is there an easy way to get a list of all Witness Name Only items?

Re: 1939 Register now available on Ancestry.

Slightly off topic but I guess we all have frustrations with the redacted entries. My parents are listed at the address I was born with three other entries that are redacted and I would love to know who they are. Both my brother and myself were born later and as far as I know there are no other sibl...

Re: Electoral Rolls

From my perspective the KB reads well but perhaps I have been too close to the subject - it would help if someone new to recording Electoral Register entries could comment. The British Library fact sheet is the rather long one that was quoted earlier in this thread https://www.bl.uk/voices-of-scienc...

Re: Electoral Rolls

Mike I have produced four templates for the Electoral Register - I prefer that name as that is how the source documents are titled in most cases - see the attachment. To differentiate the templates I have used the first year the form of the Register changed. The qualifying date is also the date for ...

Re: Electoral Rolls

The ownership of a property is a bit of a red herring. Prior to 1918 and in certain circumstances property ownership did qualify for the franchise but tenants also had the right to vote if they paid a certain level of rent. Our ancestors did make things easier for us as those earlier Registers give ...

Re: Electoral Rolls

A senior moment, Mike - I had to use the Census Template to make the Electoral Roll Template and when saving typed the wrong file name. I know that there was a suggestion not to define the date but I felt that this could lead to confusion. Unfortunately the Register Codes changed over time so there ...

Re: Electoral Rolls

Mike, I have attached my template for the UK 1920 Census which you will see is labelled "Autumn". To be awkward there is also a 1920 Spring Register dated 15th May which means I need a second template! So far I have been unable to find a table of dates of Electoral Registers online so I we...

Re: Electoral Rolls

I agree that a Knowledge Base item on Electoral Rolls would be good - that's where I first looked for advice. By not setting the Recording option for the Note field, its value will be the Electoral Register Code( eg O, HO, NM etc.) if you are using the normal practice of recording what is actually o...

Re: Electoral Rolls

Thought that I would give the AS Template a try. Unless I have missed something there appears to be a few changes that are needed to be made to the settings. The change to use Residence facts instead of Census facts is quite straight forward and manageable. However you then need to change the Source...

Re: Electoral Rolls

Sorry Mike - I think that I must have misunderstood the following. One problem that Nick faces with AS is there is no standard GEDCOM fact for events such Electoral Rolls. So, either AS must stipulate a specific Custom Event or introduce a dialogue to allow the user to specify their Custom Event. Ha...

Electoral Rolls

With Find My Past having just released the Electoral Rolls for 1920 covering a number of counties, I was wondering whether I could use Ancestral Sources to record the details and images. As they are very similar to a Census, they have all qualifying members of the household listed under one address,...

As Mike (Tatewise) usually likes a challenge, can the Ordnance Survey software at https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/busine ... opers.html be incorporated into a Plugin? :)
