recovering files

This is the closest topic area in my mind, if it doesn't fit, sorry. Once again disk failure. from ProgramData folder, what is the delineation down to the fh files: Plugins, Plugin Data, Facts, Queries and so on? I am looking for the folder drill down to all the customizations and additions I have m...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums

Exporting, wouldn't Importing/Exporting be the functional area? The existing 'Importing and Exporting' forum will be just for Importing. This is because most of the issues encountered by migrants from other software are not relevant to ‘General Usage’ of FH. Exporting is likely to be of wider inter...

is this an error or wishlist

I have the Norwegian extended character set configured in fh. Hold down the O for instance. Now I have places in my gedcom, for example: Øystre Slidre, Valdres, Innlandet, NO, NOR Oslo,, Oslo, NO, NOR Now, if in the place field, I type O, then fh will make suggestions as I type, and I am soon to get...

Re: Search for :TAG: with no PLAC

in context, I was thinking about the if not plac then plac = '' in your find and replace to get a listing, thereby creating many glitches. I was too brain dead to think of a query. Having a day off now has helped relax the little grey cells sommat.

Search for :TAG: with no PLAC

This is probably a question of Mike Tate: I would like to search for, and receive a listing of various TAG(s) that have no PLAC associated. with the fact or event or whatever.... for instance, as I furiously copy and distribute CENS records to families, I might forget to fill in the PLAC record. RES...

Re: Can FH tell the differance between no surname and unknown surname

I am only starting to become familiar with it, even though I have a year under my belt. it has---- quirks. But I like the idea that your family history is yours with no price. Not a common thing in the world. There are still holes in my genealogy, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to pl...

Re: Can FH tell the differance between no surname and unknown surname

KFN, if you go on digital arkivvet it is etternavn or last name in English. I come from a long line of knudsens in Nord-Aurdal from a Melby farm there, of course there were other patryonimic names there in my clan as well. I see no difference between Knud Knudsen, Knud ap Knud, Knud laMelby, Knud di...

Re: Calculate individual conceived date

no, it is not possible, it is certain, Mike.

I was working on a plugin at the time I wrote it, and of course used the plugin form without thought.

Mike has given you the correct and useful form. And I have given you a few of the gotchas.

Re: Calculate individual conceived date

note there is going to be some tradeoffs with this.

if you have a date only 1886 or c. 1886 the defaults may not be your best. or if you have btw. jan 1888 and 12 nov 1889. but it is a start.

Re: tables:again(again)again

I dont think your chillcode save and restore tables nor my QSYS_SAVRST functions (which are quite different) could save or restore that table from disk in that state without horrific custom coding setup to front end it. and it doesn't cure my problem that someong goes in and changes the value with a...

Re: tables:again(again)again

Mike, yes-- agreed. while I may be dealing with an arcane error, I am trying to defeat standard lua behavior somehow in this case, and find that nil key somehow and raise the error right there on the spot. In the perfect world I would somehow like to create a situation where running thru my for-pair...

I have cut this code to essentials, it is somewhat more elaborate than this. the file qwcsysval will be loaded from disk thru the SAVRST operations. the file can only be modified by an approved interface. that is yet to be done, I will finally be working on iup.GridBox to do this. (that endeavor, I ...

Re: Tree tops query

this is a plugin that does it. its overkill because it is cobbled together quickly from several parts of other plugins that do stuff like this on the way to getting something else done. But it works. If you want the file root to anchor the treetops then hit cancel on the first screen and ok on the s...
