Old handwriting
Apologies if this too off-topic, please move the post as necessary. I think I may have found the marriage for one of my ancestors buried on a half-unindexed page on Ancestry, but I am having trouble deciphering the handwriting and would appreicate any input on how you read it. My ancestor was Matthe...

Change one specific instance of a sentence in a narrative report
I have a person in my tree who was conceived as a result of a sexual assault. The father is a known individual, so there is a family record in my tree linking him to the child and the mother and its status is set to never married . In a narrative report I have generated (ancestors by generation) I g...

Re: Historically correct names for Canada
As Adrian said, it's complicated! Another thing to watch out for is that the boundaries of the provinces and territories have changed greatly over time. Most of the country was originally either part of Rupert's Land or the North-Western Territory, which were both controlled by the Hudson's Bay Comp...

Watch out for any dates that are the (2)9th of a month, it always gets misspelt as (twenty(-)) nineth rather than (twenty(-)) ninth.

Re: How to apply a different template on a source citation
Simonides, On the sources tab, under the records view, I located the source record for which I wanted to change the template. I selected the "Template" field (the bit highlighted grey in the screenshot below) then hit the delete key: Screenshot 2021-04-02 000137.png After that, I selected ...

Re: How to apply a different template on a source citation
I had a similar issue. I found I was able to just delete the template field from the source record, then right click on the source record, select "Add Template" and then choose a different template.

My Heritage - online family tree display options
I'm using My Heritage for a little while as I have discovered some useful DNA matches there that are not registered elsewhere and they are helping to fill a couple of blanks in my FH master tree. I've uploaded a gedcom on there so I have a family tree to pin my various DNA kits to, but this tree is ...

Re: Odd behaviour with accented characters
With the caveat that I only tested it once, on one record, and the only characters I needed to use were acute accented ones (áéíóú), it appears to be working. The accented characters appeared in the autotext template in AS correctly and, after saving, the text in FH was also correct. I was using the...

Odd behaviour with accented characters
This may just be a limitation of the Autotext templates that I need to work round, which I can do. I'm mentioning it here though in case this shouldn't be happening and Nick wants to look into it. I'm working with a non-QWERTY keyboard (standard German QWERTZ layout to be precise). German-layout key...

Re: Expression help please
Yes, your presumption is correct. I only ever enter a date of death (and thus create a death fact) if I have a supporting source, so I essentially took a shortcut by only checking the short title of the cited source. Admittedly, that's short and dirty, but it was the best I could achieve with my cur...

Expression help please
Where I have a death certificate/registration for an individual I create a source whose short title takes the form "D. Cert., [SURNAME], [given names] [year]". I should note at this point the name used in the title is the name recorded on the death certificate, so it may not match the birt...

Re: Individal records page - column for Ahnentafel No?
Thanks again, Mike. I'll give that a go. 99 999 would be a 17th great-grandparent, so I'm sure that will be more than big enough as a dummy number! Mick: Good system, I may do something similar myself to sit alongside Mike's solution, but I need something dynamic for this column for those rare occas...

Re: Individal records page - column for Ahnentafel No?
Bang on as usual, Mike. Thank you. I'm not hopeful, but could that expression modified in any way so that individuals without an Ahnentafel No. would appear at the end of the list after the direct ancestors with a number? At the moment they appear at the head of the list (I suppose their ATN is eval...

Individal records page - column for Ahnentafel No?
Might there be a way to get a column containing the Ahnentafel No. to display on the records page for individuals? I know you can sort ascending/descending using the relationship to root column, but the sort order is alphanumeric, which I'm finding to be a bit of a chocolate teapot! I want to sort f...

Where does FH store its diagram icon files?
I have various expressions set up for my diagrams, and I have certain icons of my own that I want displayed when the conditions are met. I am trying to add the icon to the expression via diagram options > boxes > edit features. It's been several years since I last did this, so I may be misrememberin...

Re: Saint and Street format conventions
A slight tangent: I've noticed over the years from many types of publications that all street names used to be compounded (written with a hyphen), with the second part in lower case? For example, High-street, Greenfield-road, Acacia-avenue, etc. It looks most odd to modern eyes. Does anyone know whe...

Re: Saint and Street format conventions
Another point that has not been made so far is that the general convention in British English today is not to use a full stop for abbreviations (except perhaps for an initial letter representing a name), but American English still uses them extensively. If it helps, "correct and current" ...

Re: Dead people on a census
Your record of the 1911 census needs to report what that census actually says, not what you think it should say. The information recorded in it may indeed be wrong, but that is beside the point. You can (should) add a note to your source to explain that you believe it to be inaccurate, and cite othe...

Rooting out events/attributes without sources
I've come across a handful of events/attributes in my database that don't to cite any sources (mainly residence and occupation) , and I suspect there may be a few more lurking. Is there a plugin available that can sniff out any facts not linked to sources? I've had a search but can't seem to find on...

Autotext templates for E&W birth certificates
I'm not sure if this query best belongs here or a more general forum. If the moderator wants to move the post, please feel free! AS has a very useful autotext template, 'Birth Certificate 1837- England/Wales' for birth certificates, that works well for birth certificates that have the original, hori...

I've been having a play with FH7 and on the whole I like what I'm seeing. I now need to get to grips with a few of the new features, but I'm sure that won't take too long.
