Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
Yep, you're right. It was early in the morning when I answered - clearly wasn't thinking with all neurons firing... For women, it's tricky as I want it to link to her main record, which has her birth surname, but also need to note her married name. I would likely use my own edited source temp...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I'm fine with Monumental inscription. I guess for instances where two people share a headstone, but died on different dates (generally the case), I would just enter each separately and just link the same media image. For women, it's tricky as I want it to link to her main record, which has her birth...

Re: Deleting living people before exporting GEDcom
Screenshots might prove helpful in this situation, so Jane and Mike can see what you're doing. I have clicked on the cog wheel and selected add row. All that happens is it asks me to select a name, then tells me that name doesn’t exist to select a new one, when I do I just get a big plus sign, and t...

Re: Deleting extraneous fact types
Thanks, Mike... At this point, going through and updating all those profiles is a work in progress, so no, they haven't all been deleted in the Individual records at this point. I've deleted a couple from the Fact Type list with no discernible harm to the Individual records (for individuals at the o...

Deleting extraneous fact types
Two years ago, when I permanently switched from RM8 to FH7, I imported my RM database and began the Herculean task of cleaning it up, "corrupted" as it was by junk from years of TreeShare with Ancestry. While the initial TreeShare saved me years of work and weeks of downloading individual ...

Re: Essentials Templates Advice
I do indeed clone and edit some of the Essentials templates. The flexibility of the template editor is one of the big advantages of FH. Like Gary, I work with a modified Strathclyde style, taking into account also some of the elements illustrated by Mcdonald in his book. Whenever a new Referencing G...

Hi Nick, Yes, it's the Fact created I would like to change so it doesn't appear in the Property Box as a Census. Feeling a bit dim, here, but where would I do that? All I see is the option for Census and can't figure out in the code to do anything at all with Electoral Registers. ElectoralRegisterTe...

First, I did go to the KB this time, but what I found there didn't match what I'm seeing on my screen. I'd like to set up the Electoral Register option to appear as such in FH, instead of as Census and though I tried to follow the KB instructions, it's not working. Re: Copying on 1921 Census
I do the same as Chris - if you use a Windows computer, Ctrl-Shift-v is the keyboard shortcut to paste as plain text. When I copy from a web page (FMP mostly) I tend to use Copy as Plain Text (not sure now if thats from a copy paste addon). The reason being it avoids copying some invisible formating...

Hi Rosina, I had similar issues to you. Nick very kindly provided a typed AS workflow https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=21046&p=129140#p128788 for me and it helped immensely. When you're ready, have a look. Alongside the videos, I hope it will help you as much as it helped m...

Good idea to copy into a separate collection. Thanks for the suggestion! But, no, not importing to a new project, though I may end up creating a new one after cleaning up my templates. <SNIP> I copy all of my 'settled' source templates into a separate collection with a different name. Generate an exportable list of Source Templates
I would like to export a list of my Source Templates as sorted by Update date. I know how to view the list, but can't figure out how to export it - is there a way? Why would I like to do this? Yes, I read through that post. Looks like the 4th edition marks a bit of a shift. Curious to see if any bookseller in the UK other than Amazon (which I boycott) will have the book for sale. Exactly - it's a great resource. I don't recall having to give my mailing address when I registered, but it was years ago now, so perhaps that's why. In the end, it was worth it to have the valuable information the index contains and given that I knew I'd be ordering certificates, they were going to...

Pre-1911 I refer to the GRO Online Indexes because of the additional information, such as MMN for Births, and Age at Death for Deaths. <SNIP> Just curious: I picked up on you citing GRO Online Indexes (and the link) and thought I'd missed something. I enjoy when threads go this way - I've learned a couple of things. Should also mention that I came to much the same conclusion as Gary a while ago and now use a modified Strathclyde method. My, but this thread has wandered... :D We're genealogists, Gary. We chase all the rabbits down all the holes....
