Re: Changes to notification defaults

I must be missing something. Doesn't subscribing to a topic mean you will get notified by email of replies? Maybe! It depends on your settings here: https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/ucp.php?i=ucp_notifications&mode=notification_options Notifications are listed when you click Notifications with the...

Re: Changes to notification defaults

Agree - this is a forum, not a mailing list. I've no intention of turning on emails for people who don't want them (like me). Just asking if theres any support for defaulting to subscribing people to topics they create. I must be missing something. Doesn't subscribing to a topic mean you will get n...

Re: Adding marriage without a spouse

How about just selecting the person you want to create a marriage for in the focus window and then go to the property box and select Add Fact . Then from the dropdown select Add Marriage , then Other Spouse , and then Create . Then Answer OK to Create a new Family record for xxx without a wife/femal...

Re: Changes to notification defaults

I don't like the idea of automatically being opted-in to anything. If I want to be notified I will opt-in. This would include the notifications at the top by my name. I shouldn't have to opt-out.

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

Regarding John's postings, I believe that Windows is case agnostic. I've just changed a Media record filename similar to his illustrations to THE_MUNROS.JPG FH is perfectly happy with that even though the actual filename is still The_Munros.jpg However, this new plugin incorrectly lists it as unlin...

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

Looking at this in the media window it shows it is linked once. Just to clarify and avoid any misunderstanding, the Links 1 highlighted is the number of links to the Media record from other records (Source record in this case) and not the number of links to Media files. So in this context the Links...

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

Curious - what happens if you choose the Selected Folder option and navigate to that folder? Do you still see the unlinked file? Could you also select the Full File Path display option so we can see the full file path, please. Can you also post the File Explorer view of that folder to confirm there...

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

Mark, I ran the plugin and have an oddity. With the Jane's plugin, I have no files listed as unlinked. With this plugin I have one. image1.jpg image2.jpg Looking at this in the media window it shows it is linked once. image3.jpg It is linked to a Source along with 16 other images in the same folder....

Re: Check For Possible Duplicate Media (FH7) plugin - first prototype

Thanks for the explanation Mark. I always store images of census pages in a folder for the head of the household. The file name has the head of household's name in it. If there is more than one household on the same census page then I save it twice, one in each head of households folder. Hence multi...

Re: Check For Possible Duplicate Media (FH7) plugin - first prototype

I ran the latest version of the plugin and have a lot of potential duplicates. Here is one example. image.png I'm not sure why these would be considered duplicates. The records have different names. The file names are different and they are located in different folders. Help me understand why these ...

Re: On hold until 4 Jan 2025: Preserve and Hide/Show Columns

As the original poster of this thread I thought I should comment. This change from FH 6 to FH 7 where resizing the columns doesn't stick is really a bug in my view. I reported this to CP several years ago. It forced me to change the way I have my property box displayed so that now this is no longer ...

Re: Problems with using 2 parts of Focus window, Property Box, and Citations

It is possible the window has become hidden because it is off the screen. If it is already open when it is offscreen then trying to open it again will not do anything. Try this to see if it is offscreen and can be moved back onscreen. 1. Right-click on the Windows taskbar and select Cascade windows ...

Changes to Roots Magic sync to Ancestry and Family Search

For those who export from FH to Roots Magic and then sync to Ancestry or Famiy Search there is an important notice from Roots Magic.

Re: Recognise DD-MMM-YYYY as date

Yes, but entering Dates in DD MMM YYYY format is NOT affected by the Tools > Preferences > General settings. You can change those settings to whatever you like and the DD MMM YYYY format is a valid Date entry format. Also, the MMM DD, YYYY format (with or without comma) is a valid Date entry format...

Mike,

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm able to enter dates in the format DD MMM YYYY.

Re: Recognise DD-MMM-YYYY as date

Are you wanting FH to understand mm-dd-yyyy with the dashes? If the dashes don't matter, in Tools > Preferences > General you can select your preferred date format. One of the options is dd mmm yyyy. Would this work for you? Just leave out the dashes. If you need the dashes then I don't believe FH c...

Re: Ancestral Sources v7.8.4 Beta Testing (November 2023)

I'm not sure if this matters, but I don't necessarily want the auto capitalization in all fields. I like to enter it in AS as it was actually entered onto the census form by the enumerator. At least here in the U.S. , especially in censuses taken in the1800's, enumerators sometimes used all lower ca...

I can - I just don't work like that. I always logon to FHUG every day (well, Christmas Day aside) and my link takes me straight to the list of unread topics. So I really don't want notifications, especially appearing at odd times of the day, and would mutter if I had to switch any default notificat...

Bill, are you not happy to be opted into a discussion notification when you choose to comment on that discussion? No. If I want to get a notification then I opt-in. I have often made a comment on FHUG and don't really care to continue following the topic. The need to opt-out for so many things in t...
