Re: Better ways to find where records are used

A minor comment on one of your points in the ‘Problem’ section. You said Media Property Box > Links tab added in FH V7? This only works for Media records but does not identify specific field(s) …. I think that tab has probably been there since long before V7 (but can’t be sure). Anyway it contains t...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used

One feature that has not been mentioned, and I overlooked in my OP, is Named Lists . Should a Where Used comprehensive Result Set include members of Named Lists and their Notes ? Yes, that's a good idea. Currently the only way to discover if a record is in any Named Lists is to use the IsInList fun...

Re: Why has my information gone public?

If you do a direct search on Findmypast or MyHeritage you need to enter your search parameters (name, dates etc). These are not retained by FMP or MH. When you search via FH it sends the search parameters for you, but again they are not retained. When you look at the results of the FH hints you are ...

Re: Diagram - Census data

The text scheme called Census Data should display any standard census facts, regardless of how they were created. If the ones you created manually are not showing there must be something about them which stops FH recognising them as standard census facts. Did you perhaps create them as Residence fac...

Re: Exporting All relatives plus indirect relatives

Another approach is to use File > Import/Export > Export > Gedcom file. In either case you need to start by adding all the required people to a Named List. You can do this by creating the All Relatives plus Indirect Relatives diagram and make sure it is shrunk to fit entirely within the diagram wind...

Also, try right-click on the taskbar and select the entry for Show windows stacked. No such option. However, Task View on Windows 10 only shows parent windows and not subsidiary windows like the Note window, so I wonder if Windows 11 is different. Windows 11 is the same. Task View doesn't show subs...

Re: V7 Notes

To locate a pop up window such as the Note window, right-click on the Windows Taskbar across the bottom of your screen and choose Cascade windows . Mike, it's my understanding that the Cascade feature has been removed from Win11. I certainly don't get that option when right-clicking on the Windows ...

Re: V7 Notes

What kind of note are you trying to create? Is it a fact note? Or a local note for an individual or couple? Or a Note record? It's possible that the floating window is off the main screen, or has been moved to the very edge so that it's not noticeable. (By the way as you are now using V7 can you upd...

Re: Citing English Census

If The Bush is the only hamlet you need to refer to within the parish of East Peckham you could simply enter the precise geocoding for The Bush in the standardized field for the place East Peckham. Otherwise you would need to include the hamlet name(s) in the Place name, creating a separate Place re...

Perhaps just using "East Peckham, Kent, England" would work for a place and entering "The Bush" for the address
Yes that's what I would do.

Re: Citing English Census

....It looks like one or more hamlets can occur on a given page in the 1841 census. That makes me think it might actually have been treated more like an address; much as one would treat "Torwood [House]" in the Scottish Census. Yes, tiny hamlets often didn't have 'addresses', as such, wit...

Re: Why are these dashed boxes appearing?

Hello, welcome to FHUG. These boxes are called 'Proxy' boxes and only ever appear in All Relatives diagrams. They are used to help show where an ancestor fits into his or her family of siblings. In a fairly small diagram they are often not really necessary but in some very wide diagrams where the an...

I wonder if John is assuming that the toolbars are part of the document itself? In a recent post he said "I don't want the print out to have tools along each side, just the information". John, if you print the PDF document (to a real physical printer) the toolbars won't be printed. It's ju...

Diane, I see that you asked a question about this in the FH group/mailing list. Mike replied to you there, giving a link to the advice in the FHUG Knowledge Base about importing from MyHeritage. Did you look at that? It should be possible to export a Gedcom from MyHeritage and import it to FH if you...

Re: Changes to notification defaults

Are we in danger of not seeing the wood for the trees? The main issue was that some new users didn’t realise when they had received a reply to their question. The change which Helen has already implemented addresses that problem because they will now get an email telling them. If they later decide t...

Re: Changes to notification defaults

The discussion so far illustrates that the options available for emails and notifications are confusing, even for existing long term users. When new users have a question they just want to get an answer. They don’t want to spend time wading through settings. Therefore the default settings should ide...

... particularly for women, the marriage is crucial to the burial record. I assume that you will still record the spouse's name somewhere, perhaps in the note to the marriage event, because as you say it is crucial when looking for a burial record. You could also add the spouse's surname as an Alte...
