[Wish List Entry 617] Amend Add media Dialogue box
When adding existing media to an individual, a select Records Dialogue box appears which shows available Media Records in left hand pane, and Selected Media Records in the Right hand pane, along with a preview window below I think there is an interface problem, is so far as immediately one selects a...

Re: Ancestry Discount
Adrian, that’s good.
Shame I’ve only recently renewed my 6 month subscription. As RS3100 said, I just hope it’s still around come time to renew in December
Out of interest, if one cancels a subscription ( to stop automatic renewal), does it stop straight away, or when subscription period ends?

Re: Ancestry Discount
Adrian, the £179 is for 12 months, as far as I can see, £89.99 only buys you 6 months. I’d double check exactly what you’re getting if I was you, as I fear you’ll be disappointed Ancestry is suggesting you are only saving £19!

Re: What is the Rel. column in the children section of the Focus Window?
If you right click and select Relationship to Parents, the following list appears. You can select one of these items if they apply. It would be a bit more intuitive if simply clicking the Rel field on the row produced a drop-down list of options, rather than the user having to Right-Click on the ro...

Re: Find and replace
Option 1 - definitely. I too am working through my source titles in a methodical manner, and having to repeat consecutive Find/Replacements would be made a lot simpler if ALL the options in the Dialogue box were retained between searches. Option 2. - I would add that when showing 'Match Found' when ...

Re: Modifying the generic source ‘template’
I too only use generic sources, and my solution is to have a separate source for each BMD entry with the detail in the title (not using the citation fields at all) E.g. GRO B Reg 1885 Q2 Ref Hull 9d 54 . (I am now even considering dropping the Reg and Ref from the title, to make it shorter, without ...

Re: Birth certificate not found at GRO England
What everyone seems to have overlooked is that the original GRO indexes were handwritten. At some point these were transcribed into typewritten indexes. As we are all aware, transcribing leads to further errors being introduced. So to eliminate this source of error, always try to see the original ha...

Re: Moving Individual Boxes
There is an existing bug, where the diagram toolbar ‘hides’ some of its buttons off to the right, when width of window is narrow. If this happens, just widen then restore the window a tiny fraction, this triggers the toolbar to adjust itself, and if necessary, expand into a second row. CP were made ...

Re: Blocked facts
I've tried several ideas without success. Certainly never seen that no entry symbol there before. Without more clues about when it does and does not appear it is difficult to investigate. It looks like the Fact Rejected Flag symbol but cannot imagine why it would appear in the Add Fact list. I can ...

Re: Blocked facts
I couldn't suppress Marriage Banns as a fact without it automatically disappearing from the Add Fact list, so that was my idea out of the window. Does the no-entry sign actually do what it says on the tin and stop you using it? If so, what's the error message? Sorry, I don’t know. I didn’t attempt ...

Blocked facts
Whilst adding a fact, the dropped down-list had a no-entry symbol against Marriage Banns! If it was because no wife was associated with the individual, why not place a no-entry sign against marriage as well? I spotted the no-entry sign a few days ago, but it seems a bit inconsistent in when it appea...

Re: Finding Expressions
A point to remember, this only works for your direct ancestors if you are the root individual. I.e the expression is dynamic, so If you change the root, you will get results showing for non direct ancestors. To get round this, I listed the Ahnentafel numbers for all my direct ancestors, then copied ...

Just looking at the above paragraphs, you won’t realise that it contains hidden codes to turn bold on an off. You don’t see these codes but they are there. Just try copying and pasting the second paragraph, and you’ll see what I mean :D Not sure about that - I tried copying the paragraph with ctrl-...

Re: Birth and Birth Registration
Further to Helen’s reply. To add a Birth Regiration fact to an individual, with its corresponding dates, would mean actually purchasing the Birth certificate to see when the birth was registered. I would suggest that most users don’t go that far, (except for close ancestors) and simply use the GRO r...

Re: Windows 11
Copying and pasting direct from the screen of a website is always fraught with danger, as you don’t always know what you are actually selecting. What you see on the screen is the HTML representation of the underlying text, so may contain lots of extraneous HTML codes, hidden from the viewer e.g. fon...

Re: Windows 11
I too have windows 11, and even get ‘beta’ updates, so it may even be a later copy than most users, who wait for official releases. However, I use cut, copy and paste quite extensively especially when filing my download files and have yet to hit a problem. Cutting and pasting text also works as norm...

[Already Implemented] Adding Bookmarks for Sources
When adding a citation to a fact, one can right-click the chosen source in the Select source... dialogue box and then select Add Bookmark from the context menu. It would be nice if this feature also applied to sources listed in the Record Window Sources tab. I knew I read recently it can be done, an...

Re: FH Short Date and ISO Format
Nick, One can’t be sure if a date was written using the standard, that was my point. If you write a book/article and explain that all dates within are written to that standard, then fair enough, but otherwise I stand by what I said, any date written using number is inherently ambiguous. Even your ex...

FH Short Date and ISO Format
Continued from the 22010|Does not display date in ABBREV3 format thread... IMO, that is a significant shortcoming, as it is the only numeric date format that is globally unambiguous. Sorry to disagree Mark, but any date using numbers only has the potential to be ambiguous. A date wriiten as 1945-06-...

Re: Splash screen in v7.0.21.0
I don’t know whether one can control the position of the splashscreen, but a tap on the spacebar will clear it altogether. This was in response to a complaint I made of FH being ‘locked’ until splashscreen closed.

Re: Married Name attribute or type?
It gets more interesting if the person had multiple partners/spouses/marriages. I've reworked my records to display the Married Name attribute, instead of the Married Name type and immediately encountered two women who had more than one married name. Do you have a suggestion for handling these &quo...

Another possibility is that your ISP is allocating you different IP addresses. While you are logged in to the forums, open another browser tab and go to https://www.whatismyip.com/. Take a note of what that reports for My Public IPv4 is . When you find you've been logged out again go back to the sa...
