Re: Adding Media files.
How are you adding the media files? You should be attaching them as media to the various facts and not to the individual. See this article in the knowledgebase Getting Started You may be better off using Ancestral Sources to enter these type of facts. Yes, I have been adding them to the individual....

Re: Question about scope of records handled by A.S.
My, but this thread has wandered... :D I'm still developing a modified Strathclyde template set to meet my needs and had just intended to check with Nick about whether I'd likely addressed all those that really needed to interface with A.S. I hadn't expected my example citation to generate such a d...

Re: Question about scope of records handled by A.S.
From what I've observed; it appears that A.S. was designed primarily to handle census returns and the info derived from civil/church registers, but not really intended for use with other typically consulted BMD sources like the GRO & FreeBMD Indices. Am I correct? If so; I "think" I'v...

Re: Questions about AS Keywords and User Templates
I discovered that the Keyword button on the source template editor does not appear to inject the keyword name into the currently highlighted field. Unfortunately; when I then typed it in manually, I didn't capitalized the keyword. When I discovered that the keywords are case-sensitive and fixed the...

Re: Questions about AS Keywords and User Templates
Hi Gary KEYPERSON has a lot of functionality for non-census types but for the census source type it was really just designed to have a few sub-tags that people might want to include in a source title. So it just supports various name formats, ID, CustomID and Gender. I could potentially add support ...

Re: 1939 Register labelled as Census - why?
The 1939 register is really a census in all but name but for a different purpose. A census is an official survey of the population of a country. In AS by default the 1939 register template uses the census fact but you can change this in the template (Tools->Census Templates): you could have it creat...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used
Yes I agree with this. I added my comment because I wanted to clarify how context menus are used, but really it is up to Calico Pie to decide how to implement this. Although I can also see it would sometimes be helpful for them to understand the wish more clearly. So perhaps the wish-list item could...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used
Right-click context menus are generally associated with an item being selected - a text box being edited, an image being selected, a file, etc. It makes sense for the records window to have this option in the right-click context menu for that reason. But I really can't see how right-clicking on an e...

Re: Diagram - Census data
If you just want to record a single person in a household and don't want to use John's method to record everyone else in the household, there is nothing to stop you just adding the one individual to the census entry in AS. AS will still help you to transcribe the entry, will still help you to link a...

Hi Wanda My guess is that security software on your computer is stopping AS from accessing your documents. Take a look at this Knowledge Base page . The 3rd expandable section of the page describes how to resolve the issue if Windows security is blocking you. The 4th if you use Norton security. Rega...

Re: 1939 Register
I would suggest it is a safety feature - as far as I recall, it has been there since I first started using AS some years ago!. Before AS updates the FH Gedcom, it takes a copy so that if there are any problems with the update there is a fallback solution. Personally, I have it set to only generate ...

Re: AS death and burial input screens.. edit?
The main screen in AS has a number of input boxes to enter data into and the majority of these will fill in fields within facts (for example occupation facts, residence facts, etc.) but there are inevitably items of data on a source that won't get stored in facts and so these are just recorded in th...

Re: Marriage Input Screen lacks {DateREGISTERED}
Nick, does that certificate issue need to be a separate thread where options can be discussed? if I do go ahead with regularly using AS, I'll certainly contribute. I don't particularly want a separate discussion about the issue - I've been reluctant to raise it in case it sounds like a ploy to get ...

Re: Marriage Input Screen lacks {DateREGISTERED}
AS can't possibly have a text box for every single item that might appear on a marriage certificate somewhere in the world. The autotext template for Scottish marriages puts in a year and month, but these are identical to the marriage date, so it is expected that you'll need to edit these before sav...

How do I get to revise the 1939 census back to accept the birth dates because as it is, it doesn't. Re: 1921 Census Template
You could create an autotext template with 'Number of Rooms in property: ' after the {CENSUSGRID} reference. Then before you save your entries you could type in the number of rooms after that. Or if you don't use the 'Other Info' box for anything you could put an {OTHER} reference in the autotext te...

Gary, I've been a keen genealogist for over 30 years now and I am well aware of the difference between primary and secondary sources so no need for a lesson. You quoted a secondary source as evidence of me making a mistake so it seems reasonable to quote a few more back at you! Although they are not...
