Re: Sorting dates with before and after?

I solved the problem Mike by changing my data entry and using your plug in to find and replace. Instead of using before and after 8 May 1945 (end of war in Europe) I changed the after 8 May 1945 dates to after 9 May 1945. I have been using this "before" and "after" date entry onl...

Re: Sorting dates with before and after?

I have just gone back to this Mike as never really mastered it before.

It has now dawned on me that one can sort query results by more than one column and this progressive sorting is what you were telling me to do. But I am still not getting it right.

Re: Family History Multi-Project Person Index

Dont be cross.
Mike is my hero on fh and yes I need to download it.
But yesterday I started going through a list of 5097 people deported by the Nazis from Baden to Gurs concentration camp.
And I just didnt have a second to spare.

Re: Family History Multi-Project Person Index

I would very much like to be able to search for a person name across several fh projects. Because fh uses text files, it is possible to use the Windows 10 search but it seems to take a very long time. I tend to give up and check the projects themselves. I have three place projects (based on census l...

Re: A census query - Couples living apart

I have tried again. Thank you. Mike. Everything looks good. I understand why I thought the line was rejected. fh allows one to re-organise the lines of a query into a certain order, after one has written them. But it wont let you start by writing a complicated removal line. One must do that only aft...

Re: A census query - Couples living apart

Thank you so much Mike. I have managed a query this morning which will find married women living apart from their husband. Add if %INDI.SEX% matches Female Exclude unless %INDI.CENS[1].PLAC>% contains (Parameter) Exclude if %INDI.FAMS[1]>HUSB[1]>% is null and finally the row that you provided Exclud...

Re: A census query - Couples living apart

Mike, that wont do. My queries search through lots of people. I have 2690 people on this town data base. I have three Place projects and a fourth where I throw anyone else. The result set in this instance is likely to be about 40 women. Dont worry. I think I can work something out using another quer...

Re: A census query - Couples living apart

Mike, On my research databases, I use the fh Place field for the whole address, as given on the census. I paste that same address into the citation. I think you taught me to do this when I was new to fh. It means one can use the fh Search function to find a whole household of people with different s...

A census query - Couples living apart

With profound apologies Mike but my memory is failing. I would like a query which lists women who appear on a census at a different address from their husband. I have a query which finds women whose husbands were listed in a different town. Is there a way to do this, if the couple are living apart b...

Re: Find and replace Dates

Lorna, I am very grateful for your help. Mike is correct. Initially I wanted to use a between date. There is no problem entering one such date on an individual person record. Where I ran into difficulties was trying to change a whole batch of records using the plug in. For the simplicity of queries ...

Re: Find and replace Dates

I have had another look at this. And also the Help on dates. If I know a person died between 2 September 1939 and 8 May 1945 I would like to use a between date for the death event. But fh seems to prompt me to enter a "from . . . to" date, which is more useful for an enduring event, like r...

Find and replace Dates

I have managed to freeze fh by trying to find and change dates. I am not sure whether this arises from using the plug in or a find and replace request within fh itself. I stupidly confused the date in which prisoners returned from a concentration camp 8 June 1945 with the date of the end of the war ...

Re: How do I save photos and where are they stored?

If you look at your files and find the project for the Sample file. You will find that in the fh data folder, the fh Sample Project holds a folder called Media. This is where fh keeps the media for each project. And it is where fh keeps media imported along with a tree from other genealogy software....

Re: DNA Query Report

Jane published a model for adding DNA matches. Using the attribute Gedmatch. (not to be confused with the Gedmatch website) Her associated query lists the names of one's matches in a sortable column. Unfortunately people often identify their DNA identity with nicknames, or a forename followed by a s...

Well, yes, I did read it before posting. But did not understand. It says "any" record. I have no problem with adding the sources and citations in fh7.
I was more interested in cloning people.

And in what circumstances would one do it?
I do copy and paste census events (complete with the source and citation)

Re: Sorting Before and After dates in Queries.

Thank you so much. I have not used sort dates in fh, but I came to fh from TMG where sort dates were very useful and I used them. And then used Mike's plug in to add sort dates to my personal trees. Just havent tried it on large place studies.

Sorting Before and After dates in Queries.

I have World War 2 databases in which I use after and before death dates a lot. I am having difficulty sorting these. For people who died for any reason before 8 June 1945 but whose death date is unknown, I enter the date in fh as "before 8 June 1945". "After May 1945" is correct...

Re: Creating a Custom Query

I think one answer is that in fh one doesnt add people with certain characteristics.
I start with everyone and then remove people "unless".

So I can go through removing people who dont have a particular birth place
And then remove further groups according to the dates of birth

Re: Closing panes in V7

Mike, I have just opened my son in law's tree and am so relieved to see the source pane there, with the source titles displayed, just as they used to be. I think I caused the problem by squashing fh up to one side of my large computer screen so as to view the images of ancestry documents on the left...

Re: Closing panes in V7

Thank you Mike. Very helpful. The dragging the column in the source pane does not work for me. It springs back. But using the side bar of the source pane and dragging it to the left widened that column. This is what I want. Is there a way of remembering and saving the width of these panes in horizon...

Closing panes in V7

I have for the first time been using fh7 for entering longer lists of people. To be exact about 145 deaths. So back to the issue of sources in fh7. I notice that where a source is cited for an event, the source pane shows only its number. Is there any way of setting this pane so the title of the sou...

Thank you for your help. I asked just to make sure that the experts did not have a way of speeding it up. I decided against adding a death period. Date Phrases

I am working on place studies for World War 2. In order to look at survival rates, I need to search for death records. On the Eastern front where civilian death rates were high, there are few registrations, and to record the lack of a findable death record I have been typing nf in the date field (No...
