Re: Existing sources Again
Lorna. There is no hurry to reply to this. The problem has existed since ugrade to v7. Going back to the display problem where you suggested I drag the line to the left. I failed to manage that. The verticle column line shows only in the data field i.e. does not reach up to the top and does not appe...

Re: Existing sources Again
Thank you for that guidance. TMG did not have untemplated sources. So deleting the formatted ones would be deleting almost all my sources. The answer might be to return to using templated sources. The problem seems to be that fh 7 sources are pre designated to be lumped or not lumped. That is someth...

Re: Existing sources Again
Thank you so much Mike for this help. I tried this with the 1841 census and it is as you say. But if I click on UK 1939 register master source that master source now holds the address of the last family I entered. Thanks to DNA matches I have been adding 1939 register entries to my son in law's tree...

Existing sources Again
I am still in trouble over existing sources. I lump most of my census sources. That is, I have a general existing source for each UK census. I make a new census Fact entry. I click the plus and select existing generic souce and the pane opens, but it contains the data for the previous specific citat...

Re: Selecting an existing source
Thank you both. I will see how this goes. I have to wait till it happens again. I did try dragging the column line but it was dead. Not a working link. But since reading your advice and leaving that pane open I havent had a problem. Moreover we have found a source document and page ref we have been ...

To clarify. Apologies. This is a previous snip made yesterday, the source is not New York. But the problem is shown.

Re: Selecting an existing source
I dont know whether to start a new thread. But I am in deep trouble over source display. Ihave a snip attached to this showing the display problem. But I cant even remember how to insert an image in this post. Covid and old age are defeating me. This is a big place study started in fh, my first Proj...

Re: Recording (military) aircraft, medals, battles etc.
I have searched help for labelled text. What is it and I wonder if I need it. I post this only because it helps to know what the OP is doing with Military facts. I have a First World War Project. It is small, just 1,100 people. I have a custom event Milit Serv brought in from previous software which...

Re: Selecting an existing source
Thank you. I have done that. However I have a lot of blank columns. What is the difference between Generic Type and Template? My type list looks much like a template list to me? I have not opted to use or add Templated sources. But may be I should. As presumably I always used them prior to arriving ...

Selecting an existing source
I am still finding it had to add sources. Is there any way to get the author field to show when one is searching to enter an existing source? I have for years used the Book format for most of my sources. It provides fields for a title and an author. Thus if I cite a family tree from a DNA match or f...

Re: Map Language
This may not be relevant but I had previously struggled with maps on fh. Now it looks good. I do need local names for places because local passports, censuses and certificates use local names. This thread encouraged me to click on my last edited person and to see at once in German the street and dwe...

Thank you both. And particularly Lorna for that image. I will see what I can do with that. I have been confused further by the names for the two panes.

Thank you so much for looking at this for me. None of the display options allows one to see the detail at once. I am sure this was possible in v6.

Re: Source citation display.
Thank you , I will do that Lorna, I have not been consistent over generic or not. In TMG my previous software, all sources had a source type. That source type arrives in fh. I have a general source Stolperstein (German memorial plaques) Currently it shows only as the source. I have to click the plus...

Please could someone help me with this or allow me to pay for on line tuition?
I have always for security updated my genealogy software. I have thousands of records in multile projects (Place studies), and dont want to revert to fh 6.

Source citation display.
I am still floundering with sources in fh7. After entering the source, fh7 helpfully shows me how that source will appear in the footnote etc. But the detail of the citation does not appear. I get the GRO index of births or the overall Census source for a particular year. But I dont see the detailed...

Re: Sources and citation in fh7
Yes Lorna, I can, and I have done that in the past.
But why have they devised a complex source and citations system where one cant cite an author?

Re: Sources and citation in fh7
I am sorry to ask you for further help over this. I have at last been using fh 7 more easilly thanks to your help today. I need an author field in the citation. May be not clever of me but I have a general source for a Family Tree published by a user on ancestry and when I cite a tree, I put the use...

Re: Sources and citation in fh7
Thank you both. That looks to have fixed it. I did indeed try both the suggested solutions. Being simple, it is useful to go back to the default. I also then tried a dummy census entry creating a new (dummy) citation and it is all clear. Since I have been floundering with fh7 sources since last Dece...

Re: Sources and citation in fh7
I am getting the pane as shown above (last image)
And the citation-specific pane is there and the two little dotted lines. However, I cant separate those lines and the yellow space offered for citation is not editable. I could try to get you a snipped image if that would help.
