Re: GRO Birth Indexes and how to Cite against Birth Fact

Thank you everyone.

Those replies were extremely useful - and I'm not so far away from what you suggest. Using the Address field = Registration District is a real winner.

Thank you all very much.

Re: Mass Update of Source Data Fields

Hi Mike Thanks for the reply. I'm not entirely sure what you mean when the say the Short Title field does not exist - surely it is a database field like many others or have I misunderstood? Your last paragraph describes my need accurately - I want to use the Short Title field to hold variable inform...

Re: Mass Update of Source Data Fields

I solved the change requirement by using the Search and Replace plug-in. But how would I mass populate that same field with a constant value when it is already empty?

Many thanks.

Mass Update of Source Data Fields

Hi Forum I would like to know if there is a mass update technique to apply a consistent value into a field within the Source record? I would like to mass update the Short Title of the Source record and change one value for another for a number of records. See the screen shot attached. In the example...

GRO Birth Indexes and how to Cite against Birth Fact

Hi Forum Looking for inspiration once again. I have a small number of quite valid GRO Birth Index records that I do not need or wish to press further with and purchase the birth certificate. I'm wondering how best to cite these against the persons birth fact - but more interested in how to state the...

Re: Occupation from death certificate showing in Census field

Hi Mike

Thanks for the reply - now I understand why. I guessed it was something to do with the coincidental clash of Census Years with non Census related Fact/Source data and dates.

I was just curious as to why it happened in case it was my error.

Occupation from death certificate showing in Census field

Hi Forum I have an occupation derived from a death certificate as a Source. But the occupation is for some reason visible in what should be Census data fields. I'm using the Census add-in 'tab' solution. Please see the screen shot showing the occupation present in the 1939 census details box. Any id...

Yes - I agree it is not worth worrying about, but my OCD doesn't allow me to ignore it. :D I'll try to track that publication down.

Thanks again.

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

Thank you Mike - that worked a treat. It's annoying to find so many different interpretations of which county a place belongs to.

Many thanks.

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

Hi Jane and Mike One more question if I may. Using the FH Mapping Screen is there a way to sensibly Auto Zoom and have the 'found' place marker centred in the 'X' marks the spot in the centre of the mapping screen? It is quite laborious to have to keep manually zooming in and re centreing the place ...

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

Hi Jane/Mike

Thank you both for your suggestions and honesty. I didn't realise just how poor the FH Mapping Geocoding is. I will follow your workaround suggestions.

Many thanks.

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

Hi Mike I used the same technique to update another Place - see the screen shots. The view online Maps initially correctly showed the Place name using the Standardized place details I would guess. I then went into the view in FH Mapping and it showed the Question mark. I refreshed the Geocoding and ...

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

Hi Mike I followed your instructions and now it maps correctly. But I'm still a little confused... What part of the Place is it using to create the Geocode data? The Primary Place (Pontfathew) cannot be found using any Mapping solutions. So does it therefore use the Standardized Place (Bryncrug) to ...

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

Hi Mike you can use the example in the screen shots. You should find that the FH Mapping api will use the Primary Place and fail to locate it. It presents a ? once loaded.

Thanks for your help.

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

@ Mike Having entered a Standardized Place value. And choosing the option to display the Place using 'View in Map Window' - The FH Mapping software uses the Primary Place and not the Standardized Place value and fails to find it! However, if the choose 'View in Online Map' then the Standardized Plac...

Re: Source record Surety

Hi Mike

Yes I following your argument. I'm just looking for something visual to say. I have checked this Source, rechecked it, double checked it and it is X value of Surety.

The Note field will suffice I guess as I already use the other fields.

Many thanks.

Source record Surety

Hi Forum

I appreciate and understand when Citing Sources one can set the Assessment Field to show Primary, Secondary, etc. But is it possible to Mark the Source record itself with some sort of Surety value? Perhaps following the same criteria as for Assessment.

Thanks

David

Re: UK Historical County Mapping Software

Thank you all for the invaluable tips on how best handle this subject. I now need to decide how best to implement. UK Historical County Mapping Software

Hi All I'm getting a little bit overwhelmed with Research data where UK (England and Wales) County Boundaries and their names have changed over time. And this is causing havoc with the FH Geocoding feature. Does anyway know of a software package that can identify UK County Boundary/Name changes over...
