Re: Census Place, how do you decide what is right

Thank you Mike I'm pretty much following what you do, and record the Census Reference in the Publication Information field. You mentioned you can use this reference to 'look up' the details for District, County etc. Where would you recommend to look up? I use FMP, Ancestry, and others but as I menti...

Census Place, how do you decide what is right

Hi Forum I was wondering how others code the Place details recorded on UK Census Records? If it's obvious and clear where it is then no real problem. But in a lot of cases I'm finding it difficult to read many Census record images to accurately define the Place where the Census was recorded. Particu...

Re: Saving a Custom Diagram

Okay I see the difference now. I'll switch over to saved charts. Thank you Lorna for the added explanation.

I skim read over the Saved Chart part so missed the essential difference - sorry both.

Thank you.

Re: Saving a Custom Diagram

Hi Mike. Thank you. I think I have found the pattern that causes the confusion. When I make a change such as the number of generations and use Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type, then as you say the Save Dialogue screen pops up with the Diagram name pre-filled in. So I choose OK and that dialogue...

Saving a Custom Diagram

Hi Forum. I have created a Custom Diagram named Individual Checked Flag (Green), all works fine and it is opened by selecting the diagram from View > Custom Diagram Types > Individual Checked Flag (Green). See attached screenshot. The problem is when I change the Diagram Options for example to incre...

Source Record > Media View > Out of Memory Error

Hi All. Any ideas as to why this happens: Please see attached screen shots. The first image gives an Out of Memory Error when trying to show the preview The second image loads the preview window without any issues Widows Task Manager shows only 41% of memory in use out of 16Gb, assuming this is the ...

Autotext Editing for Burial

Hi Forum. Can anyone help me edit the Ancestral Sources Burial AutoTemplate to include the title for person administering the burial. Eg, Curate, Minister. Please see attached images. I tried to make changes but these don't seem to work. In fact what is there already doesn't work! Unfortunately this...

Re: FT Analyzer is amazing

Is it a error that when you attempt to open the download Windows objects because you do not have sufficient administrator rights? I had this in the beginning when trying to install FT Analyzer. You will need to either adjust the Windows Defender settings to allow the program to run (install) or elev...

Re: Backup and Restore Plug-In

Thank you Mike. Not a real problem I don't think. But hopefully can be sorted going forward. Like I say the FH folder within the wrongly dated Sub-Folder is dated correctly.

Re: Backup and Restore Plug-In

@Mike - Just an observation. I have been monitoring the results of the Backup and Restore Plugin. Today I ran a new Backup, I have the option to create Sub-Folders set equal Yes. I have noticed that today's Backup has re-dated yesterday's Sub-Folder with the same date as today's backup. See Image. T...

Re: Fact Label corrupt

@Mike - I deleted that folder. Since my Computer Restore, I have noticed some folders and even FH Project names have been set lower case. Not sure how or why. That folder did contain what you would expect to see in a Backup folder when compared to the 'dated' folders. I can see it is working now. It...

Re: Fact Label corrupt

@Mike Would you kindly check these folder paths for the Back & Restore Plugin. Please see the three attachments. Is what I have done correct? I don't quite follow why I have a folder named 'family historian' amongst the FH Settings dated folders. Is this an older backup folder that can be deleted or...

Re: Fact Label corrupt

@Mike - I did lose some files when the crash occurred, FH System Backup discipline/routines must have slipped in frequency and all I could find was a Backup from sometime ago. So it wasn't the latest and greatest. Hard lesson learned as they say.

Sorry Jane missed your post somehow. Yes I did but I suspect the mod was not part of a Backup set.

Re: Fact Label corrupt

Hi Mike. Yes I do use that Plugin but i think i overlooked to save this change to a Backup set. I'll look at that Knowledge base article and see if I can restore what I had. And then Back it up.

Thanks

Fact Label corrupt

Hi Forum. After restoring from a computer crash some of my fact labels are now shortened to just Birth or Death. From what I can see it affects Witnessed Events where say I "Informed of the Birth" of a son. Or I "Informed on the Death" of a person. See attached image. I can't remember how to re-enab...

Backup and Restore Plug-In

Hi Mike Tate, I had a major laptop failure yesterday and had to reinstall everything. I have managed to get my FH Project Data restored, and my list Plug-Ins rebuilt but I'm struggling with the Backup and Restore Plug-in to recover my Preferences and Customisation's. I have the last Backup folder an...

Thanks for the guidance Mike. I'll take another pass at the split to include siblings for a start. And then use Flags and Named Lists to keep the focus tight.

Re: Can AS Populate 2 x FH Projects

Thanks Mike. This is because I recently split out my direct ancestral line from my main Project. I want to validate the direct line and clean up in the process. If I find a key lead I want to update both projects with that info via AS as efficiently and consistently as possible.

Can AS Populate 2 x FH Projects

Hi Forum I think I already know the answer but I thought I would ask anyway. Is it possible when using AS to update 2 seperate projects with the same AS data? Not at the same time of course. But is it possible to retrieve the last updated data from the log files and push it towards a second project....

Re: Clean Up and Validation Guidance

@Mike Tate. Thank you and precisely that. It will restore my wandering focus and allow me to clean up and revalidate a core group of Direct Ancestors. Then progressively build upon this by bringing the more distant individuals back into the tree in a more consistent and thought about manner. I'll ch...
