Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals

Mike, just given yours a quick test as well and seems fine. The advantage of Dave's plugin (a different starting point) is that by choosing the fact, you can use an existing source that has already been used multiple times, with yours, it has to be a 'once used' only source, so if you subsequently w...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals

David, just tested with some added text, bit scary with no messages or results, but seems to work fine, I even tried 2 facts with [*] together, a custom event and an immigration. However if someone was to do it 'for real' they should test further I would imagine this could be very useful in many sce...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals

Fine Helen, but as for NOT "do something it wasn't intended", that's the story of my life! This topic has at least given me some possible workarounds for similar situations. I do note that in the AS census options you also have the option to alternatively or as well record the detail in a residence ...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals

Firstly apologies, getting my method1,2 mixed up !!! Yes method 1 rocks (single source, multiple facts). As for AS, I use it very simply, and in a 'generic' scenario it seems to work fine: - a template with any fictitious country and year and date together with text generation (e.g.Source title) wit...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals

Ah, so Helen does want to use Method 2 (or method 1), but a bit more automated like AS. Bit of a brain storming, but how about creating a new census template in AS, then converting the resultant census facts to whatever is required with plugin change any fact tab . Don't worry if I am still misunder...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals

Can you not just treat this as a simple Method 2 Source, that would mean only having 1 detailed source for as many facts and people as you care to link to it, just like with say a census. Then all the detail in that source would be shown with the source detail for a/any/all individual summary via th...

Re: Floreat

For 'logistical' reasons I give everyone at least an estimated birth date, erring on the side of later, with a note as to how I estimated the date. In most cases this might be only 5 years out, and the most extreme would be say 50 (e.g. an older man marrying a younger woman). This then puts them in ...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6

Hearthstone Apologies, I got my links wrong on the previous posting, now corrected. Correct links also here: These might be starting points: http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=58284#p58284 12944|Sorting none dated facts and keeping them sorted - although cumbersome this is my current metho...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6

Hearthstone Sort Dates. Yes a regular query on the forum and something I missed coming from TMG. I suspect the main 'original' reason is that it is not GEDCOM compatible, but I am sure there could be a way around that like some other aspects of FH (places/geocoding, named lists etc), but of course F...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike, looked at your revised version: As before this will save many keystrokes. I think there would be no end to the possible 'criteria' permutations, so for me this would be fine. If you want suggestions for refinement, at this point I could only suggest more PLACe options. i.e. select any of the 1...

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings

E, you are right to want more from your software. But at least for the present FH is going forward with each release, unlike a lot of software these days that loses features when it changes platform or dumbs down for mobile devices! Despite the international popularity of genealogy, for some reason ...

Re: Marking unsure relatives in the tree

One possibility.
On your diagram Options > Boxes Tab
create a condition and "Edit Features"

attached is an example with a couple of conditions. (Diagram + Text Scheme)

It might mean you have to create a regular scenario for the condition, perhaps surety, or that there is no source.

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings

E, EDIT - not sure if this will help, but might be a starting point. If you use/add Alternate Names for individuals e.g. via the Main Tab > More(+) (say married name(s), change by deedpoll etc) for any relevant individuals these can be displayed in a query with expressions like %INDI.NAME[2]:SURNAME...

Re: Address and Place, yet again

Mike, ah, but it does appeal to me. We are used to certain 'illogical' formats through custom and usage and so they 'feel' better. I have not tried it, but I suspect you could separate the PLACe 'parts' and arrange accordingly. I don't use Use Short Form for Repeated Place Names Having been in IT an...

Re: Address and Place, yet again

late reply I'm afraid, but I like your topic title ...yet again . Yet again I'll add my 2 pennyworth. I too came from TMG and liked the place/address structure there, one of the simpler and logical aspects of TMG. But since moving to FH and with the introduction of GPS/Geocoding I completely revised...

Re: Sort Place Names on two or more fields

Sorry for the late reply but the format of PLACe ADDRess formats is a recurring problematic theme. I repeat again my method below which I find makes finding a place/address much easier with FH 'as it is now'. In this case everything sorts from the off. However, I fully agree that it would be nice to...

Bit late for reply, catching up after being away. Just tested that, seems basically that the 2 delete options are there until you have gone past the 'point of no return' (i.e. Post a new topic or Post a reply to create a new posting). Nice to know for future reference.

Re: Delete post options

Mike re the
next to the Edit post icon there is the Delete post dustbin icon
This is not available on all my posts, I'm suspecting there are some rules, perhaps after editing, or subsequent posts or time period. Perhaps I missed the bin symbol before I edited?
