Re: "Shires" and "Counties"

County boundary changes were made in 1974 when these became known as administration counties. On top of this some places which were in one county has been moved to another county when the administration county was started. Since 1974 some of these administration counties have also been changed with ...

Re: Winzip

Thanks Mike

I have thought about doing that but then wondered if I did so will I lose all the winzip files I have had over the years (not just FH)
That is why I hesitate about uninstalling it even though I am unable to open any because I have ceased subscribing to winzip.

Re: Winzip

Thanks Lorna
I will give that a go. What I have been doing is prompting the item from my file folder where it is saved.

When I save FH it always ends with the Winzip ikon hence my thinking it is winzip

Re: Winzip

Mike

I am a bit surprised at your comment.
Every time I back up FH it goes straight to Winzip (this has always been the case since the first FH) and I have never been able to open it because I don't subscribe to it

I will have a look at Knowledge base

Winzip

As users of FH know back ups always end up in Winzip I have had Winzip since it first started all those years ago. Nowadays it is an annual charge and appears to be organised by 2 different companies. I discovered that when I realised I had paid 2 fees a few months apart. I have since ceased using W...

Jane

Have you ever considered running a course for those unable to hear? For this you will need a speech to text reporter.
Only problem is knowing if there is a demand for this and who will pay for the reporter

Re: Reliance on subscription sites FMP, Ancestry etc.

Sadly the excellent Hugh Wallis site is not as it used to be due to the LDS changing things. I used to download details directly onto the software which converted the details to an Excel sheet. This was no longer possible. Well it was no longer possible years ago when I found things didn't work anym...

I have just checked Snail Driver and downloaded it but got a warning message telling me 'this type of file can harm you computer' it then asked if I want to keep it or delete it.

Should one ignore the warning?

Re: Reviewing census data

If you have entered census data before using AS just use AS and when you work that way it will tell you there is a census record on your FH and asks if you want to replace it. You can check if both are the same person and say yes to replacing what you had added before. So there is no need to go thro...

Re: Backup & Restore - not a new database

I have just had a look at the Knowledge base for One Drive. This states that the max load is 10GB. A message popped up on my PC the other day telling me the max is 2GB! I have no idea why this popped up as my previous uploads were 10Gb. My latest back up exceeded this so I moved if off One Drive Vic...

Following comments here I decided to combine 10 pages into one. Each page was about half an A4 size. In other words 5 x A4 size pages. I added them below each other and they all worked splendidly. I have Corel Paint shop Pro 9. I have been using this for years and had just upgraded it to the latest ...

Re: Map window address bar

I haven't used the map place. What I do is put the address i my search browser and it will take you to where the location is. I discovered this by accident when I prompted a contact address on my mobile and it went straight to the address. Since then I have simply put an address on my browser and it...

Re: Copy/Paste in the Property Box

I use snap my screen to copy an area from the web site. I then paste this in FH using the copy and paste in the Project folder. It is simple and straightforward. I have mentioned this in another thread. Alternatively I can paste the copy into my photo software, enhance it. Copy it again and paste it...

Your mini lap top may not have a CD drive but you can buy and attachment CD drive which you plug in. Your comment reminded me that I have such an attachment but haven't used it for years. May be this is no longer available due to the growth of flash drives. You should be able to add FH to a flash dr...

Re: Printing Whole Tree

I have had some trees printed by a printer. I first sent them the tree and they replied suggesting I make it small by (say) 75% . It was the same tree but reduced in size. The reason they suggested that was to make it cheaper for me to buy and easier to handle It is a few years since I used them the...

Re: How to Handle People With Multiple Names

If I don't know the wife's maiden name I always use her husbands name inside brackets. like say Sally (Markham). If is a second or third marriage I still use the first marriage surname because subsequent marriage will be her last husbands name. Only by finding details of the first marriage will you ...
