Re: Research Planner Version 2 -- request for beta testing

Helen unfortunately it doesn't. I downloaded it fine and copied it to C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugin Data\Research Planner.dat I do not have a research_planner.dat folder. Is that the issue?

Re: How to list Names that begin with Van ---

Edit the surname so that it looks like George Ernest /Van Allen/ Enclose the whole surname between the / (slash) and it will then display the surname properly. For single barrelled surnames you don't need to enter the slashes FH does it for you automatically.

Re: Exporting gedcom file to excel

It depends on exactly what you want to do with the file. If you give some more information then you may get a better answer. You can run a query and save the result of the query as a CSV file for use in Excel. It is what I do for my Surname Study website as I only want to display the basic BMD infor...

Re: FH on Mac or Unix

If I used Apple products only, I would have found the best genealogy software on that platform and used that, not tried to find a way to run FH. Trying to use another platforms programs just means you are on the wrong platform in the first place. The thing that you must remember is that Genealogy m...

Re: FH on Mac or Unix

Ancestral Quest like RootsMagic at the moment use Crossover as a wrapper on their Windows programme so they are not native Mac applications. The problem for them is that Wine , which Crossover is a flavour of, does not run on the latest Mac OS as Wine is 32bit. Wine is working on a 64bit version as...

Thanks for the video @Jill sounds like we may be getting some bits off the wish list. The reporting features certainly sound like what we have been asking for. Now for a native Mac version ;)

Re: Can I produce a copy of a Descendent family tree?

File > Export > Gedcom then instead of selecting All just select the person that you want then if you want their descendants just include that in the options.

Re: GEDCOM 5.5.5!

@Mike See this from the 5.5.5 Press release:- Birthdays GEDCOM 5.5.5 explicitly allows what many applications were already allowing: a date without a year. Centenarian Support GEDCOM 5.5.1 allows recording someone’s age at an event, but its AGE_AT_EVENT definition restricts the number of years to on...

A bad example @Mike as there is a new date format D M and no Y or that's how I read the spec.

Re: Running FH on two computers

Do you only intend to used both computers in your house? If the answer is yes then consider using a NAS (Network Attached Storage) disk attached directly to your router. This is likely to be a lot faster than any 'cloud' service and keeps the data on your own devices. The advantage of this method is...

Family Historian online discussion - Google Hangout

This was mentioned in another forum post recently and it is something that was mooted a couple of years ago. We talked about having an online video discussion on various aspects of Family Historian . This would use Google Hangouts which allow up to 10 people to be in a virtual room with others watch...

Google Hangouts still exist https://hangouts.google.com/ it is just Google+ that has closed down. You need a Gmail / Google account to start a hangout but they do still work.

You could also use the Contains Text query that searches for any text but it will give you any occurance of probate in your project file against an individual so may be too broad.

Re: Best size for a project

Because Family Historian uses Gedcom as its file storage medium large studies are not a problem. I seem to remember when this question was asked in the past there were several people with several 10's of thousands of person records in one project. I certainly have over 10,000 in one of my projects.
