A couple of others that you may want to look at are Evidentia and Geves.

Re: workflow and getting organized
A couple of other things to look at: 1: Check out all the FH Plugins, there are a lot that are very useful like 'Look up missing Census Facts' and 'Find Duplicate Individuals' 2: Occasionally run the FH Gedcom through FT Analyzer http://ftanalyzer.codeplex.com/ 3: Check out some of the other on-line...

Re: Facts and GED standard.
Don't forget that the 5.5 standard is about 14 years old, maybe even older. The 5.5.1 standard AFAIK is still only a draft and that is dated 2 October 1999!!

Rather than Gedview, get Heredis for the iPad it is free. I find it a better app than Gedview.

Re: Lost Cousins again
Mike Thanks I am glad that I haven't missed anything. I am concentrating on the England 1881 census input at the moment to LC I will worry about 1841 and 1911 later. This is the basic input screen. lc.jpg I will try and get the query sorted for this and come back if I can't, thanks for the offer. I ...

Lost Cousins again
I have looked through the old posts about a Lost Cousins query / report and am still struggling to get a report that is suitable for transcribing direct into the LC site. Does one actually exist? Or shall I struggle on trying to create one? All my census details have been entered using Ancestral Sou...

The new version (1) didn't restore the buttons automatically. Once I did the reset though the buttons are full sized. Just FYI.

Thanks for the new version of the plugin, the options are great. It works well on my databases.
I too have the chopped off bottom buttons issue.

Re: FH running on Wine
Gerry I couldn't get it running on Mountain Lion (probably my lack of knowledge about Wine) and so gave up and went with Virtual Box and a copy of Windows XP. I upgraded to Mavericks yesterday (mistake several bits of s/w don't run under Mavericks  ) I am going to have another go next week to s...

Can you share your Wine version of FH (my abilities with Wine I suspect rather than anything wrong with Wine on the Mac)? I haven't managed to get it working on my MAC the way you have. I have to run it using Virtual Box with a legit version of Windows XP.

Re: Change Any Fact Tag Plugin
Andy One way to do this is with a plain text editor. I use the free Notepad++. Just open the gedcom file and then do a search and replace. Notepad++ understands Regex and you can programme it using a Regex statement to only change the events you want to CENS from EVEN. Do this on a copy of your Gedo...

Re: Browser icons & text difficult to see
The other thing that you can do in most current browsers is to press the Ctrl key and + it will make the font larger Ctrl key and - will make it smaller Ctrl key and 0 will revert to the website defaults. This works with Internet Explorer. Personally I use Firefox but this trick may allay some of y...

Re: Back Up
If you are running a Windows machine have a look at the free programme from Microsoft called Synctoy. It will backup / copy other files and folders that you want to once you have configured it. If you have a lot of data you maybe better off getting an external usb drive rather than a usb memory sti...

I have had the opposite experience with Teamviewer. On a trip to the UK I was away for 10 days and left it running on my PC at home accessed it 2 or 3 times every day without any issues whatsoever. I suspect it depends on exactly what you are doing. Did your computer switch to 'standby' (or whateve...

Yes it does. You can chop and change between Mac and Windows at the same time without issue. It is just a virtual machine within the Mac environment.

Free alternative for FH on a Mac
There have been several posts in the past about using FH on a MAC. My Windows laptop died a couple of months ago and went in the recycling bin. I decided to bit the bullet and try a Macbook Air due to its weight size etc. I was then presented with the problem of how to get FH running on it. I read t...

Jane I must say I like the new look of the forums and the site in general. Like anything new it takes a couple of days to get used to. Thank you for providing the site. It is not a small amount of work to do a major upgrade like this and keep the old site running at the same time. I congratulate you...

Any chance of centring the forum in the browser window. On a wide screen monitor it looks most odd scrunched up to the left?

Using V5 on a Mac
I have resurrected this old thread to see if anyone has tried getting FH to run under Wine on the MAC? Or is parallels still the best way to go?
I have just bought a MacBook Air and after looking at a couple of Mac family tree programmes I definitely need to get FH up and running on it.
