Re: Marriage Input Screen lacks {DateREGISTERED}
Nick, does that certificate issue need to be a separate thread where options can be discussed? if I do go ahead with regularly using AS, I'll certainly contribute. I don't particularly want a separate discussion about the issue - I've been reluctant to raise it in case it sounds like a ploy to get ...

Re: Marriage Input Screen lacks {DateREGISTERED}
AS can't possibly have a text box for every single item that might appear on a marriage certificate somewhere in the world. The autotext template for Scottish marriages puts in a year and month, but these are identical to the marriage date, so it is expected that you'll need to edit these before sav...

That suggests you haven't ticked the 'Offer to Create Birth Facts' and/or '.. Even if existing birth includes date and place' options. I showed a screenshot of that in my first reply.

Re: 1939 Register
How do I get to revise the 1939 census back to accept the birth dates because as it is, it doesn't. John you have a frustrating habit of just asking a question in a minimal number of words without any explanation as to what you mean, no screenshots, etc. Then we have to ask more questions and event...

No you're not missing a setting. Occupation doesn't allow for a drop-down list of occupations to be set up.

Re: 1921 Census Template
You could create an autotext template with 'Number of Rooms in property: ' after the {CENSUSGRID} reference. Then before you save your entries you could type in the number of rooms after that. Or if you don't use the 'Other Info' box for anything you could put an {OTHER} reference in the autotext te...

Re: Census Template: Incorrect 1911 Census of Canada date
Gary, I've been a keen genealogist for over 30 years now and I am well aware of the difference between primary and secondary sources so no need for a lesson. You quoted a secondary source as evidence of me making a mistake so it seems reasonable to quote a few more back at you! Although they are not...

Re: Census Template: Incorrect 1911 Census of Canada date
Or maybe the typo is on the page you've quoted? Library and Archive of Canada ( https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1911/Pages/about-census.aspx ): The 1911 Census marked the fifth regularly scheduled collection of national statistics. It officially began on June 1, 1911. Family Seach ( https://www...

Re: AS Census - SourceTemplate.xml missing
As Brent said, AS is expecting to find the file in your Documents folder within a folder called Ancestral Sources and a sub-folder called 'Settings' image.png If the file is there and assuming you've not changed any options to use a different folder then (with AS not running) try renaming the file t...

Re: Image format in FH/AS, JPG or TIF?
Personally I tend to use png rather than tiff but they are both lossless formats. If the images you download are only provided in jpeg format then as long as you don't edit the image itself the quality will not reduce. Converting them to tiff won't improve their quality. Editing exif fields shouldn'...

Re: Incorrect tooltips showing for census template
FH7 is not a .Net application. That is a key difference. You are looking at tooltips on the FH toolbar - are the tool tips wrong on the AS toolbar? I thought it was just the grid. Not sure if FH uses data grids anywhere.

Re: KEYPERSON.AGE tag missing
As I say throughout the Ancestral Sources help guide, AS will help you to enter data but you always have to make manual changes before saving. AS will save you time by filling in source citation fields but before you save it insists you look at the values and check they are correct, editing them and...

Re: Incorrect tooltips showing for census template
AS template files are saved into the Ancestral Sources folder within the user documents folder. The main settings are stored in the Windows Registry but you can export these using Tools->Backup AS Settings. Reinstalling AS shouldn't change any of your settings but better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Incorrect tooltips showing for census template
Tooltips on grid controls are just a feature of .Net - I'm not doing any clever coding here. I don't think reinstalling AS would help because if it was corrupted in some way I can't imagine it would run. I expect it must be some kind of glitch with how the Arm 64 version is rendering the grid contro...

Re: KEYPERSON.AGE tag missing
Sorry Gary, I was mistaken about this. AGE isn't a sub tag that will work with census entries. With census entries the key person tags all refer to values related to the Individual in the file rather than the entry being made. It's something i can consider in a future version. I wouldn't particularl...

I have no idea Gary. It works fine for me with your template and others I've tried. I've not had this issue reported by anyone else. Which version of Windows are you running?

Re: KEYPERSON.AGE tag missing
The drop-down is really just a short-cut to save time typing the tags in yourself so you can just type in the correct tag and it should work. If it isn't in the list I'll add it to a future version.

Re: Editing names for census "Year or Description"
You could certainly copy the census template and give it the description you want. Although AS will help you to fill in the citation fields, it is unlikely it will fill in all of them and it is expected that you may need to edit them before saving so another approach is just to manually edit before ...

Re: Issues with showing existing media in AS
When you add an individual to the grid it will report that the individual already has a census entry for that year and gives the option to replace that census entry.
It will do this for each individual you add and act accordingly.

Re: Issues with showing existing media in AS
Is it correct to say that AS can't be used to "complete" the data in an existing set of census facts, but one could fully recreate the set and image links and save that to overwrite the existing set? Yes that is correct. AS is for entering new census entries. It will offer to overwrite an...

I run FH7 on a Mac M1, under the latest version of Parallels. I've set up AS v7.8.6 to use templated sources, method 1 for census records and the subject FH census fact has an image attached to the source. The media resides in its own directory outside the project. However; while AS shows the curre...
