Re: Recording Certificate No and doc references in AS

Can an option be added to drop the AS Ref ID into the FH Source record Custom ID field (as described in Where to Record It). If this were possible, any pitfalls? Thank you Kevin Anything is possible, but it won't be in the near future. I assume by 'Where to record it' you mean the book by William C...

Re: Recording Source Author, Type & Publication Informatio i

Hi, we've been having a discussion regarding recording repositories, author and publication information on the FH Forum 14023|Key Repositories? . Acknowledging that the author, publication information and repository are not always known at the time of keying in on AS, where they are, it would be ni...

Re: Ancestral Sources v5.2.0 (Beta)

I'd updated one of those references to 8.1 earlier today but I'd not spotted this one.

Note that v.5.2.0 has now been released and so this is no longer considered beta.

Re: Ancestral Sources v5.2.0 (Beta)

No reported problems so far (I'm currently assuming the error reported by Hugh isn't related to this update and more likely to be caused by a network issue as it was being run on a Virtual Machine on a Mac with files on a network server). Unless there are any issues reported I'll aim to release it f...

Re: Ancestral Sources v5.2.0 (Beta)

Might this be related to 13941|Records saved in AS but not appearing in FH ? Either Auto-save or Snapshots were considered as culprits. That doesn't seem like the same issue to me. That thread was discussing FH continuing to save and therefore AS triggering a reload, whereas Hugh says there was a f...

Re: Ancestral Sources v5.2.0 (Beta)

Hi Hugh I don't think the file saving routines were touched as part of this update so I think it is unlikely to be a 5.2 issue that caused this (but not impossible of course). If AS fails during a file save it should display an error which may be useful to me at least so if you get any repeats let m...

Ancestral Sources v5.2.0 (Beta)

I've decided to release another minor update to Ancestral Sources. I'm hopeful this will be OK for everyone to use, but for now I'll class it as a 'beta' version as it hasn't been fully tested. If any issues arise I'll fix them quickly and all being well I'll take the 'beta' tag off it and update th...

Re: A little marriage entry bug possibly?

Thanks for reporting that Colin. The same problem applied if religion of individual or spouse needed to be retained. This is fixed in the next version.

Best wishes

Re: Records saved in AS but not appearing in FH

AS is checking the timestamp on the GEDCOM file. If the date/time changes this indicates the file has been updated and AS reloads the file. If FH is updating the file in the background following a save then this would mean that AS could only be safely used if FH was closed. I've not seen evidence of...

Re: Records saved in AS but not appearing in FH

AS wasn't really meant to be used for entering from BMD indexes but actually I did add support for Quarter Dates to AS (for all source types except Census) a couple of months ago - I just haven't released it yet because I wanted to add another feature before I did but then haven't had any time for d...

Re: Census images how to link correctly to families

Hi Roger

I really wasn't in any way taking your suggestion as being a swipe at AS, I totally agree that it is essential to understand the mechanics behind what AS is doing but wanted K17 to be aware that it will probably be the best option.

All the best

Re: Census images how to link correctly to families

Please note that Roger has explained how to manually create link the entries as an alternative to using Ancestral Sources but really Ancestral Sources is the best way to do this as it will save you a great deal of time and help you to maintain a consistent way of recording your data.

Re: Update issue

That's OK Colin, I know you're a very active supporter of AS :). I agree that the name should update after a reload although this is only a display issue as AS is aware of the data change internally.

Re: Update issue

Thanks Mike I will check that out, just used to editing in place not having to click a link to get an edit window. The delete is a pita if there are a lot of entries to move the re-entered entry up the pile. Using the up/down arrows on the toolbar it takes about 10 seconds to move an entry from the...

Re: Problems with census searches on Findmypast

Mike I had exactly the same frustrations initially when I subscribed to FMP recently (having previously used Ancestry) and I resorted to finding them first on Family Search too! As soon as I realised that I needed to select the record-set first (e.g. first find the record set with 1851 in the title)...

Re: FH criticised in blog post - email to support?

The Export dialog already has options to expand file paths to full so I think adding some further options to allow export in 5.5.1 format would work. But the FH solution of being able to use relative paths is so much better.

Re: FH criticised in blog post - email to support?

Yes, if I understand it correctly, only a few tag adjustments are needed to be 5.5.1 export compliant: Adjust _ATTR to use FACT Adjust _EMAIL and _WEB to use EMAIL and WWW Adjust _FILE and FORM & TITL to use FILE with subsidiary FORM & TITL Move _PLAC record MAP , LATI & LONG to use PLAC field MAP ...

Re: FH criticised in blog post - email to support?

It seems reasonable for FH to allow an option to export in 5.5.1 but I think 5.5 standard together with the various extensions that Calico have added over the years work well as the default.

Re: FH criticised in blog post - email to support?

I believe the main basis of the underlying argument in the Blog Post is that Family Historian allows the use a number of Gedcom Tags that were not included in the Gedcom 5.5 specification and which were only defined in the 5.5.1 specification so, in that case, Calico Pie is be falsely claiming that...

Re: FH criticised in blog post - email to support?

Yes but 5.5.1 was never released as an official standard and FH doesn't produce GEDCOM in 5.5.1 format so it would be wrong to label it like that.
