Re: Hello Everyone

Jane, The images in the link that Lorna posted are working ok for me. Here is one that isn't working for me. http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=6059 Bill Hi Bill, Yes those images are now working OK for me, but definitely weren't earlier today. (Maybe Jane has already waved her m...

Re: New Forum pictures.

Go to User Control Panel (in grey font near top of screen, just right of centre). Select Profile > Edit Avatar. You can either upload the image from your machine or enter a URL. Note there are size restrictions (100x100 pixels, 6kb).

'buried affidavit made'?

Further to Jane's reply, see also this article for more about being 'buried in wool': http://www.historyhouse.co.uk/articles/buried_in_wool.html The 'afft made' recorded after each burial probably relates to this. Sometimes the entries are very much more detailed, for example in the parish of Braile...

V5 Installation

Mike, I don't think Ron is talking about transferring anything to a new PC:  just installing V5 on his existing PC, with an icon on the desktop. Hopefully he resolved the issues he raised in another thread recently: http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi?action=forum&board=v4use&op=display...

1911 census puzzle

tatewise said: You are correct about your grandfather. I found his marriage to Sarah Jane Manly in Q2 1877 West Derby. I also found their 1900 Census in West Derby with children Alfred & Robert. So clearly he did not die in 1892 - sorry about that mistake. No, the 1911 census shows they had bee...

Sort Date

tatewise said: In your example, you know that James must have Died after his daughter's Birth, so use After Dec 1850. Just a small point: a father could have died up to 9 months before his child's birth. In this example I would omit the month when entering the date, to avoid misleading precision (a...

Sort Date

In v5 each standard fact is associated with a 'time frame', so you should find that a death event without a date is always listed after all life events (but before burial/cremation and probate) without the need for a dummy 'sort date'. If you want to have just one occupation for an individual you ca...

How do I enter a variation of date style?

Hi Andrea, When it says that dates can be entered in a variety of styles, what it means is that the progam will interpret a variety of ways of entering a date as being the same date. For example: 11th june 2013, 11 jun 2013, 11June 2013, Jun 11 2013, 11/06/2013 (if you use UK settings), 06.12.2013 (...

Understood.
Is  it best to request the disabling of these options via the Wish List or direct to Calico Pie? ( It is not a request for a new feature, rather a clarification of an old one).

Creating a book

If a Sources section were composed as different Reports for multiple Records were added, then this would result in many Sources sections, and cross-references would be ambiguous. I understand your explanation Mike.  Within a book, the sources need to be either after each Record or at the end of the...

Marriage Picture & Text Order, Individual Summary

Bob Ward said: The text I am referring to is not the text associated with the multimedia pictures. It is the standard text block under the 'Marriage' section of the report that lists: 'Spouse', 'Children', & 'Marriage date & location'. Yes, I know that is what you are talking about. As I sa...

Marriage Picture & Text Order, Individual Summary

You probably have the picture location options set to 'In Rows above Text, Left-Aligned'. Unfortunately there is no option to put the pictures below the text, but you can put them to the right of the text. (See Report Options, Pictures tab.) This arranges the pictures below one another in a column d...

That's odd. If you start from Publish > Narrative Reports > Individual Narrative and produce a report (rather than a book) you can use the Report Options to select Location of Sources 'At the end of the report' and it works.  You get the sources after all the individual narratives, reducing the numb...

If you create each report separately I think the sources will always be immediately after each report. But if you select several individuals and create one report including all of them, there is an option to put Source Citations at the end of the report after all the individual narratives. This is i...

Breadth of research

I do 'fan out in all directions', as you put it, so that I investigate all branches of my family, but in the main I restrict my research to blood relatives and their spouses. I find that this gives me more than enough to do without investigating the families of all the spouses. In other words to ans...

Duplicate Source Pictures Under Family Group Sheet

From what you say I assume the source no.6 is listed in full and no.7 appears as 'Ibid'.  This is used when the source is identical but the citation information differs in some detail (Entry date, Assessment level, Where within Source, Text from Source or Notes).  Are any of these listed against eit...

Duplicate Source Pictures Under Family Group Sheet

tatewise said: I cannot duplicate your symptoms. When a Family Group Sheet is created for a couple, there is only one Sources section with one Grave stone picture at the end of the report. It is cross-referenced from both Burial Events. If Bob is getting the source (and therefore the picture) liste...

Have you tried entering notes for any fact type other than birth?  If it works for other facts, did you perhaps leave the errant 's' in  'Births:' in the expression for the column for birth tasks?  This might have happened if you copied and pasted the expression before Mike corrected the typo in the...

OK, thanks.  I wasn't sure if the custom tab was being put in the wrong place or the 'Move tab Up/Down' options were not appropriately greyed out.  It seems it's the latter.

Moving Custom Property Box tab

Having just created a Custom Tab for the Property Box I find it has been placed second, immediately after the Main tab. I would prefer it to be the last tab, and have tried using Customize Property Box > More Tab Tasks but the option to Move Tab Down is 'greyed out'. Oddly, the option to Move Tab Up...
