Re: Changing a source citation

Checking each one is a viable option, particularly with the Cancel, that would get me there.

Thanks,

Changing a source citation

There is a useful plugin " Replace Selected Source Citations " for changing citations. However I only want to change the citation for a subset of all the citations for a particular source. The subset is based on the Fact type (e.g. Birth, Marriage, Death). Is a small modification to the plugin possi...

Re: Family Historian

There is a description of how Cameyo does this here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameyo . When you run the app the first time it creates an extra folder on the USB with a set of system files and folders. The next time you run the app it starts much faster, in fact not much slower than a desktop ins...

Re: Family Historian

I too had a need for a USB version to use away from home. The http://www.cameyo.com solution worked well for me, but as I already had FH installed I created a VM a clean (WIn7) installation as I had the ISO file. Cameyo recommends using a virtual machine anyway. Steps are: 1. Install Oracle VM, good...

Re: 1939 Register - updating entries

It might be too late in this instance, but when I am adding new entries for the 1939 census I edit the "Text from source" section to include the redacted entries in a household. They read as e.g. "Subject no. 3 redacted". I don't have an individual for these entries but seemed a useful way of recogn...

Mike, what sort of "undo" feature might be possible? Step by step or all changes in a session?

Re: Map usages

The "free" wordpress.com site does not allow you to install any plugins, so it is only suitable for a basic site using themes that are available on wordpress.com. If you want to go further with WordPress you need a hosted package with WordPress included. You might be able to make some progress and c...

Re: Witness roles

This might be a useful tip.

I have found it useful to be able to edit Witness Roles in FH V6 after having previously added the witness in AS. So typically I might add as 'Name Only' and then revised it to an individual in the database when more information comes to light.

Re: Adding a shortcut to Plugins on the Toolbar

Mike, this goes half way there, the real benefit would come if the toolbar could be modded by the user to add selected shortcuts as icons.

Getting it on the Tools menu does reduce the clicks of course.

Thanks.

Adding a shortcut to Plugins on the Toolbar

Is it possible to add a shortcut on the toolbar to a specific menu item? I would like a shortcut to the "Run plugin" function to save navigating the menu each time.

Thanks.

IMO seems a mistake for Calico Pie to link with My Heritage, unless they are planning to acquire FMP (DC Thomson)?

Find Duplicate Citations - plugin

The plugin Find Duplicate Citations appears to not quite do what I expect. I have a several thousand duplicate citations, but linked at the "whole record" level rather than to Facts . I suspect this is why it does not find my citations. Is this a simple modification to the code that is required? Or ...

Fact for newspaper article

This topic has been partially discussed before. Often ancestors will appear in a newspaper article, perhaps in the report of a court case, but it could be any event. If the article is created as a Source what fact would be recommended for recording the individual's mention? In some cases it would be...

Witness reporting

I have witness on some of my facts both as a linked record to an individual in my database and some as name-only. Currently these are witness to marriages and wills. How can I report on instances of an individual occurring as a witness in a custom query? Ideally for both types of event. The event it...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding

The advice in the reply to my post Places and Addresses - best practice (11868) proved helpful as I too wanted to get my modest 300 or so unique places tidied up. Geocoding them I have had a 100% success rate with no noticeable errors.

Thanks.

Re: Evernote Plugin?

On the Plugin page http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=plugins:help:evernote_to_do there is no link to the actual plugin, which after some searching I found in a much earlier post in this thread. I installed it on V6 and confirm that it does still work with Evernote - very nice too. Is there a r...

Places and Addresses - best practice

I know there are some general guidelines on the uses of Places and Addresses in the Knowledge Base. Re: App for Android-based Tablet

GedFamilies does not appear to be compatible with the Android 4.4.4. (on a Nexus). My solution is to use Rootsmagic for Android (with Rootsmagic Essentials to get the data across) holding the data file on Dropbox makes the process a dream. If GedFamiliies worked I would have to use GedFamilies Sync ...
